It contains over 2,300 true/false, matching, and multiple-choice questions covering the entire field of ophthalmology, including the subspecialties. Answers are provided along with brief explanations and extensive references. More than 100 new questions in this edition cover topics such as refractive surgery basics; therapeutic and diagnostic issues in AIDS; new vitreous substitutes; new antiglaucoma treatments; and updated results from landmark clinical trials, including the Macular Photocoagulation Study, the Cryo-ROP Study, and the Central Vein Occlusion Study.

Editorial Reviews

Jeffrey L. Marx
This review manual in ophthalmology contains more than 2200 questions and answers. The authors state that they intend for the book to "act as an aid in assessing one's base of knowledge" in ophthalmology. It is not their desired intention to simulate the written qualifying examination or the ophthalmic knowledge assessment program (OKAP) written by the American Board of Ophthalmology." Although the intended audience includes residents, fellows, and attendings in ophthalmology, the book appears primarily geared toward residents and fellows. There is a dearth of questions involving clinical decision-making, so this book does not address issues that may be more relevant to the private practitioner. Excellent-quality color photographs accurately represent the clinical presentations stated in the questions. References are current and usually include the Basic and Clinical Science Series of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The overall presentation is attractive, with all of the major areas of ophthalmology covered in detail in separate chapters. The author should be commended for an excellent job in generating a significant number of questions that are relevant to residents and fellows interested in assessing their knowledge base and in focusing their study efforts in a certain direction. For those who are able to use a question and answer format, this book is certain to please.
