Meet the Author

Terrence McNally is the author of numerous plays, including Love! Valour! Compassion! (winner of the Tony Award for best play), The Ritz, and Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune, which was made into a feature film starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, and the books for the musicals The Rink, and Kiss of the Spider Woman (winner of the Tony Award for the best book of a musical). Other successes include Lips Together, Teeth Apart and The Lisbon Traviata. McNally has received two Guggenheim Fellowships, a Rockefeller Grant, and a citation from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He also serves as vice president for the Dramatists Guild, the national orgainzation of playwrights, composers, and lyricists. He lives in New York City.

    Master Class, A Life Lesson if you Look For It.

    After seeing the play Master Class performed I decided to do more research on Maria Callas. This was my first stop. The play, seemingly "just a play" about an overly demanding diva is, however, a glimpse into the HEART of an artist. Not just a performer, AN ARTIST. An artist is someone who "joins or fits something to completion". A performer just presents something.

    Maria Callas was an artist. Not just in opera, but in life as well. This little work is FULL of life lessons like gold nuggets scattered throughout a gold mine. Not everyone will see them. Not everyone will know how to find them. But they are so very valuable.

    I can recommend this very short little play as an enjoyable insight into life.
