Heart to Heart Interview with Angela Knight

Heart to Heart: You've been a comic book writer and a newspaper writer. Are you able to use that past experience in some way in your writing now?

Angela Knight: Definitely. For one thing, my comic book editor, Dwight Zimmerman, taught me the nuts and bolts of character and plot construction. And in many ways, my action sequences still owe something to comics, in that they're intricate and longer than fight scenes in most romances. You'll see that in Master of the Moon, which features lots of sword fights and magical battles. My newspaper writing also had an impact on my work, because as a reporter I covered everything from town council meetings to murders. That gave me a solid knowledge of how crimes are investigated and how small towns operate. In Master of the Moon, my heroine, Diana London, is based on a real city manager I met while covering the town of Woodruff. In fact, the fictional Verdaville is a dead ringer for Woodruff, right down to the mill villages and tiny police force. The politicians of the real Woodruff aren't cynical and hapless like the ones in Verdaville, but I needed to take a little artistic license to make things tougher on my heroine. HtoH: About that heroine….You've created an amazingly tough and sexy heroine who has a day job as a city manager and moonlights for the police department as a werewolf. When did you start thinking about this book -- and what were the challenges in writing it?AK: Actually, I was inspired to write the book after I did a story on Woodruff's K-9 unit. I was very impressed with the dogs and their cop handlers and I started thinking: What if the dogs were werewolves? I loved that idea so much, I'm writing another book using it, featuring Diana's brother, Jim London.HtoH: Some authors find it awkward to write sex scenes, but clearly you don't, and your readers love that. Do you have a working theory about writing erotic scenes? AK: Love scenes must do just as much to advance the plot, the characterization, and the romance as every other scene in the book. They should not be something thrown in to titillate readers and satisfy an editor, because that makes them nothing more than porn, no matter how tasteful and well written they are. HtoH: Clearly vampires and magical creatures intrigue you. Did you read Anne Rice as a teenager? Did you read a lot of fantasy as well? What other works inspired you? AK: I discovered Interview with a Vampire in high school, and from then on I was hooked. I also fell in love with Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books, as well as Tonya Huff's Victoria Nelson series. I'm a big P. N. Elrod fan too; her vampire private eye series has always been one of my favorites.HtoH: What new projects are you working on right now?

AK: I'm writing Master of Wolves, the sequel to Master of the Moon. Werewolf Jim London, investigating the murder of his best friend, steals a page from his sister's book and goes undercover as a police K-9. His partner is a beautiful sheriff's deputy with no idea that her German shepherd, Rambo, is actually a handsome hunk. Obviously, the fur will fly when she finds out the truth! (Sorry.     Too much sex not enough substance

    I like erotica but this just wasn't as well balanced as I'd like. The plot was simple but acceptable but was clearly not enough to fill this many pages. The book could easily have been shorter and probably would have been improved by it as this many sex scenes simply gets repetitive. Diana was a bit crude and lacked charm to balance her character.

    I enjoyed the previous novel a bit more than this followup. My personal preference in fantasy is a few more rules and limitations on the use of magic. In this series, the vast scope of magical abilities makes it way too easy to find alternative options for the characters than the ones they choose.

    Good Stuff

    Just the right amount of suspenseful and sexy! I originally found out about this series by reading one of her short stories in Bite. I loved it and I'm happy to say that after reading a book from this series, I was not disappointed. I'm going out to buy the first book in this series tonight. Looking forward to starting it this weekend! Also, if you love this series, you should check out the Broken Heart Series (suggestion) - it's really good as well!

    Must Have Book

    I stumbled upon the Megaverse series by Angela Knight because I had read all of the Carpathian series. What a wonderful find!!! I enjoyed the character play between King Llyr and Diana. The originality of this story is outstanding, witty and fun. I will keep this book in my permanent library and reread it when ever the mood strikes.

    King McDreamy

    Started out great...

    This book started out strong with alot of potential but as soon as sex was introduced the plot thinned out and that seemed to be the focus. I stopped reading it halfway thru.

    Loved it!

    I am highly impressed with Angela's writting. Her writting is truly genius, very erotic, funny, intense and beautiful. I am anxiously waiting for any new books and will look for some older ones that I haven't read.

    Excellent aranormal police procedural romance

    Tony Shay and Jim London were both seventeen when they did their first shapeshifting ¿Change¿ together along with their third pal Steve Carson, who died during the Transformation. Now several years later, bail enforcement agent Tony is dead Jim feels the Clarkston PD is involved as he smells rotten death magic on the corpse of his pal and a similar odor from Police Chief George Ayers. --- Vowing to Tony¿s mother Mary to uncover the truth, Jim knows that the department needs a new K-9 dog ever since the last one vanished. Taking a page from the book of undercover investigation ¿written¿ by his reporter sister Diana (see MASTER OF THE MOON), Jim changes into a German Shepard so that he can listen to the cops talk.     Mageverse Tale of Sorcery and Suspense

    Angela Knights spins of tale between the Fairy King and an werewolve that is impossible to tear yourself away from. Story is truly gripping and a great addition to her Mageverse line in the Masters series.

    Outstanding!

    Loved this book, though I must confess that I read the books in this series completly out of order so I was a little confused but it was still just as exciting and I caught on quick. Praise to Angela Knight!

    Hot, hot hot

    Excellent characters, never a dull moment and the female character is no wimp she gives as good as she gets if not more. I cannot wait for Master of Woves previewed in this book & will be collecting all of her other stories.

    I blinked and I was done

    I don't want to recap on what was already said, the book was fantastic. I read it in one sitting, from sun up to sun down and laughed hysterically and sighed all the way.

    Great Read!!

    What a great book. I couldn't put it down. This book contains all the elements a book could possibly need. You have strong characters, romance, steamy, erotic love scenes, and action. Even though this book continues the Mageverse series started in the anthology Hot Blooded, it can be read as a stand alone. Ms Knight is such an incredibly talented author, that once you read this book, you will put her on your must be read list.

    wonderful pranormal tale tale

    Verdaville, South Carolina city manager and part time police officer Diana London uses her werewolf nature to help fight crime at night.
