Overview

THE FIRST THING you have to understand about the story of Master Stitchum and the Moon is that it happened very, very long ago. Millions and millions of years ago. When the world was very young. So young that the mountains only came up to a person's chin and snowflakes came in just twenty three shapes...
MASTER STITCHUM is a tailor who does no tailoring but instead spends his time telling everybody else what to do. He tells butterflies how to flit better and he tells knights how to slay dragons more effectively. Follow Stitchum, his sister Helga (the town spitter) and his brother Pitchum (the town slop shoveler) as they embark on an unforgettable journey...

Follow Stitchum, his sister Helga (the town spitter) and his brother Pitchum (the town slop shoveler) as they embark on an unforgettable journey to furnish their town with the previously undiscovered novelty of MOONLIGHT. In doing so, Stitchum will cross treacherous mountains, swim through shark filled oceans, sing lullabies to giants and ultimately come face to face with his own weakness.
Included within this wonderfully illustrated, full-colored, masterpiece is a CD containing 3 songs that complement Master Stitchum and the Moon. These unforgettable songs were written, composed and performed by world-renown singer/songwriter, Michael Smith.

A tailor and his siblings embark on a journey that results in the moon's appearance in the sky.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-In this prose version of a musical play, loosely based on two Grimm folktales, a ukulele-playing angel helps a poor, know-it-all tailor become one of the Moon's custodians, and then helps him reassemble it after pieces are taken away. Along with the Ukulele Guy, the wacky cast includes Stitchum's equally impoverished sibs-Pitchum, who peddles shovels full of slop, and Helga, who deals in spit. The latter two die of old age and take chunks of the "Moo" (so named by a passing cow: the "n" doesn't show up until later) with them. Stitchum follows, visiting both Heaven and That Other Place, which is seen as a vast quilt beneath which happy dreamers snooze perpetually. In the end, Master Stitchum has not only been persuaded to set the reconstituted Moon into the sky, but he's also lost his habit of finding fault with everyone else and learned how to sing a lullaby-which, along with two other songs, is recorded on an accompanying CD. Illustrated with small, scruffy-looking color cartoons of scowling, ski-nosed figures, this story seems rambling and disconnected without the physical comedy it most likely displayed on stage.-John Peters, New York Public Library Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    A facinating journey

A unique story that facinates children. The images conjured are silly, whimsical and fun for kids.
