Dennis Mess
This is one of a ten-volume series providing an in-depth surgical technique atlas. Each technique is presented by an acknowledged master. The stated purpose is to help the practitioner deal with common surgical problems. The target audience is orthopedic surgeons and residents. This book is loaded with exquisite drawings and color intraoperative photos that provide a step by step surgical instruction manual. The section on local muscle flaps in most helpful. This volume is far and away the best of its type. I have seen many similar books but this is the ""master."" I highly recommend this entire series to any surgeon and all hospital or training program libraries.

Description: This second edition book covers the surgical treatment of skeletal fractures in adults.
Purpose: The purpose is to describe the current and effective way to treat common problematic fractures, a worthy objective that is met. The editor, Donald Wiss, MD, from Southern California Orthopaedic Institute, is best known for his work on fracture treatment.
Audience: Orthopedic surgeons caring for adult patients with trauma are the audience, and orthopedic residents can also benefit from this book.
Features: Each of the 46 chapters discusses a different fracture type. The authors are chosen based on their experience with the specific fracture. Every chapter is extensively illustrated with color drawings of excellent quality as well as intraoperative photographs. The surgical steps are detailed. An important subsection on indications and complications form the beginning of each chapter. References at the end of each chapter are limited to recommended readings.
Assessment: This book is one in a series of 13 that deal with Master Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery overseen by editor-in-chief Bernard F. Morrey, MD. This entry is written by experienced surgeons who have done a great job. I highly recommend it to all orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic residents.
