This is a worthy objective since confident rescuers have increased survival rates from sudden cardiac death. The book meets the author's objective by providing thorough and up-to-date information for various resuscitation situations.
Audience: This book is written for interdisciplinary healthcare providers who are preparing to take the ACLS course. The author is a credible authority on the subject matter; she is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
Features: The book discusses the ACLS core concepts as well as techniques. The best feature of the book is the fact that it is useful to readers of various skill and knowledge levels. It starts with the basic concepts and builds to the more complex. One thing that this book does well is to help the learner identify personal skill strengths and weaknesses. There are many highlighted boxes that also provide key points. These key points would be useful to make flash cards for review. The diagrams are well done and simple to interpret.
Assessment: The quality of this book is outstanding. While it provides comprehensive clinical information, it is also easy to read and understand. The second edition is justified since new information has been added to reflect updated knowledge. The author states that there have also been more case scenarios and special rescue situations added that were not included in the first edition.
