I have reached a point in my quilting where I want to know the finer points of piecing - and to improve my accuracy. This book is one of the first that I have found that goes beyond the basics when it comes to actually sewing piece A to piece B. There are wonderful hints that are highlighted as "noteworthy" and they are! Good illustrations and clear explanations in the text. There are so many beginner books, but when you have been quilting for awhile you have questions those books don't address, this one goes beyond the beginner questions to the questions of an intermediate quilter. Beginners would probably find this book useful too, this information saves time and money by improving your technique! Why not learn the finer points of piecing right from the beginning.
I bought this as a Nook book because I only cared about reading the piecing information, not whether I could use the patterns. The information is excellent; I feel I improved my piecing skill on the very next quilt I put together. However, it was frustrating to read in ebook format, as the font was about a size 8 and would not allow change in the font size. Neither would the formatting of this particular ebook allow me to highlight or bookmark important sections. I read ebooks all the time, but I CANNOT recommend purchase of this excellent tool as an ebook.
If you are just beginning to quilt this book is a must read. While the designs in the book focus on piecing miniature quilts the preparation methods are the same for regular sized quilts. I return to the book throughout my quilting projects everytime I need an quilting expert. Ms. Collins book, "The Art of Machine Quilting" and "Quiltmaking by Hand" by Jinny Beyer are always nearby as well. Piecing requires precision cutting and measuring - Ms. Collins tells you exactly how to do that and more!!
