Meet the Author

Darrell Young (DigitalDarrell) is an information technology engineer by trade. He's been an avid photographer since 1968 when his mother gave him a Brownie Hawkeye camera.

Darrell has used Nikon cameras and Nikkor lenses since 1980. He has an incurable case of Nikon Acquisition Syndrom (NAS) and delights in working with Nikon's newest digital cameras.

Living near Great Smoky Mountains National Park has given him a real concern for, and interest in, nature photography.

He loves to write, as you can see in the Resources area of the Nikonians.org community. He joined the community in 2000 and his literary contributions led to an invitation to become a Founding Member of the Nikonians Writers Guild.

    I Also Recommend:

Very easy to read, is well illustrated, and has many handy tips

This is a great book that is well laid out and easy to understand. It has lots of colour illustrations of the camera and its menus, as well as the many example photographs from other Nikonians. These are its greatest strengths. Good value for money.

While not as comprehensive as some, it focuses heavily on navigating the menus and explaining the basics of what each control does. From that perspective, I think that it is well suited for the beginning DSLR user as opposed to the experienced amateur or professional.

    Great Book

I learned a lot from this book. Not only did it help me with things relevant to my new camera but the author also explained a lot of the general theory involved in digital photography. I would have felt that I got my money's worth even if I did not own a Nikon D90.

Highly Recommended if you own a D90

I have had my D90 for several years. It is loaded with more capability than I knew how to use. This is the third book I have purchased on the D90 and it is by far the best. The book takes you through all the menus in much greater detail than the owner's manual. It explains all the many capabilities of this great camera. The author explains things in an easy to understand manner and offers many very good tips.

For an amateur photographer like me this book is a must have. I will keep it in my camera bag to help me get the most out of my D90. It's a great book for a great camera!

    Have not read

I did not pay enough attention to the description. I was looking for a hard copy, it is for a nook which I do not own.

    Technical Stuff Can Be Learned

I use this book as a learning tool for my cameral. For that purpose it is great with considerable detail and information not provided by the camera manufacturer.
