Meet the Author

Verne Harnish is founder of the world-renowned Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) and chaired for fifteen years EO's premiere CEO program, the "Birthing of Giants" and WEO's "Advanced Business" executive program both held at MIT. Founder and CEO of Gazelles, a global executive education and coaching company with over 150 coaching partners on six continents, Verne has spent the past three decades helping companies scale-up.

The "Growth Guy" syndicated columnist, he's also the Venture columnist for FORTUNE magazine. He’s the author of Scaling Up (Rockefeller Habits 2.0); Mastering the Rockefeller Habits; and along with the editors of Fortune, authored "The Greatest Business Decisions of All Times", for which Jim Collins wrote the foreword. Verne also chairs FORTUNE Magazine's annual Leadership and Growth Summits and serves on several boards including chairman of The Riordan Clinic and the newly launched Geoversity.

An investor in several scale-ups, Verne resides in Barcelona, Spain, with his wife and four children and enjoys piano, tennis, and magic as a card-carrying member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

When I worked IN our business as salesman or technician I knew exactly what to do. When I wanted to work ON our business as President and CEO I was at a complete loss. If you have a burning desire to grow your business, and become successful but like me, you don't know where to start, then you MUST READ Verne's book. If you are content with slow growth, or if you think you have already heard everything you need to know, then don't waste your time. In the 6 years that I have been following the methods described in this book I have seen my business grow over 25,000%. From the outside that must sound too good to be true. However, if you want to see that kind of growth and you are willing to do the work required but you just don't know where to start, then pick up Verne's book and start practicing these habits.

Harnish's book is very clear about the importance of core values, mission, alignment and rythym. All concepts that most of us know, but don't know how to really implement. The difference between this book and others I've read, is that it gives you well thought out tools which you can implement with confidence. It's obvious that these tools have been honed through Mr. Harnish's work with many entrepreneurs and CEOs. Pay special attention to the planning pyramid; it's helped me share the big vision and get the organization into alignment. By putting stakes in the ground, it also quickly helps to identify any holes there may be in the overall strategy. All in all, this is a must read.

Verne is a guru when it comes to providing simple concepts to help run a growth business. The principles outlined teach discipline and business tools that help leaders manage their time and their businesses. When practiced, they are powerful. These concepts helped our company learn how to manage growth of 300% per year for the last four years. This rapid growth would have torn our company apart without the Verne's practical teachings.
