Masters Running Guide

Masters Running Guide

by Hal Higdon

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Aimed exclusively at runners over 40, this fitness guide covers everything from flexibility and strength exercises to nutrition and massage techniques. The basic message is that it's never too late to begin an exercise program as long as the proper precautions are taken, particularly in regard to the risk factors associated with cardiovascular training, a topic extensively examined in Kenneth Cooper's Running Without Fear (LJ 5/15/85). An appendix includes recommended reading, camps, and equipment. A comparable book for the mature runner is Allan Lawrence and Mark Scheid's Running After 35 (LJ 4/15/90). Readers seeking over-40 sports activities other than running might turn to Ronald Lawrence's Going the Distance (LJ 5/15/87). Higdon's well-done work, however, should satisfy its intended audience.-- William H. Hoffman, Ft. Myers- Lee Cty., P.L., Fla.
