Editorial Reviews

Art Times - Raymond J. Steiner
A sampling of the over 1300 posters he has created over the past 5 decades. Great reproductions.
Globe and Mail
Iconic works of poster art by one of the style's greatest artists... a clever manipulator of visual imagery, producing thought-provoking posters.
Library Journal
Renowned Japanese graphic artist Fukuda himself selected the posters for this collection of his best work. Going as far back as the early 1970s but dating to as recently as 2004, with the vast majority created during the 1990s, the posters usually take up a page and get captions (alas, too brief). The book as a whole conveys the vision of a man who knows how to twist our reality to help us understand it better. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Preface

Introduction to "Masterworks" section of 140 posters

Masterworks

Within a span of 50 years, I have created more than 1300 large posters. These were mainly targeted towards Japanese corporations, exhibitions and the entertainment and merchandising industries. Most were designed with the Japanese lifestyle and culture in mind.

For this book I have selected posters I feel best represent my work and yet can be enjoyed by people all over the world who have different lifestyles, cultures and customs.

Ignoring the chronological sequence in which they were created, I have arranged the posters on the pages in the way I felt would be most interesting to the reader.

In addition, I have presented a sequence of images following page 16 that show some of the preliminary design stages to help the reader appreciate the creative process that lies behind my work.

Finally, there are a few images of pieces I created for display outdoors. These represent another dimension of my work and allow you to see how I deal with three-dimensional space.
