Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Robin Webb Corbett, PhD, RN C(East Carolina University)
Description: This is a quick resource guide for nursing students and staff nurses providing direct patient care for their maternal-neonatal patients.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a quick source of information for nursing students and staff nurses caring for maternal-neonatal patients. This book is concise and succinct in its review of important material in this area. While many reference books or textbooks are available in this area, this is a pocket guide of facts, disorders, interventions, and nursing care for this specialty population. The book uses tabbed sections to allow quick access to information in a care setting.
Audience: It is written for nursing students and staff nurses who specialize in maternal-neonatal nursing.
Features: The six tabbed, color-coded sections cover prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal, ECG, and essentials. Information is bulleted with algorithms, pathophysiology and skills, and content changes highlighted to help the busy practicing nurse or the searching nursing student easily locate information. Tables, flowcharts, and illustrations are very colorful, pertinent, and helpful in understanding the content. The numerous illustrations are a particular plus for this book. A waterproof spiral book format makes this rapid resource guide easy to use in the clinical setting.
Assessment: This is an excellent quick resource guide for use in the clinical setting and as a basis for understanding maternal-neonatal nursing.
