hiccup....

Lucy seems to be out on a limb. Everybody has a boyfriend except her, and since she put Tony on the back burner he's found someone else. Then on a spa weekend with Izzie, she meets someone who seems just right for her. And he feels the same way about her.

But after a while, Lucy starts to feel smothered. Can someone love you too much? Maybe the life of a singleton isn't so bad after all!

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Popular series return with new installments. Cathy Hopkins's foursome of bubbly teenage girls is back for their fifth adventure, Mates, Dates, and Sole Survivors. Fashion-forward Lucy narrates as she and her girlfriends try to find the perfect boy, balance friendships with budding relationships, and casually debate the merits of "putting out" versus holding out. Line drawings of T-shirts with empowering or amusing slogans separate the chapters. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Gr 7–10
In the fifth book (Simon Pulse, pap. 2003) in Cathy Hopkins's series, set in London, Lucy realizes that she is the only one of the mates who doesn't have a steady boyfriend. Following some funny, but unsuccessful attempts at matchmaking, Lucy meets a guy who seems just right for her during a spa getaway with Izzie. But after a while, his love becomes too overwhelming. Narrated by Shirley Barthemie, this audiobook will please fans of the series as well as those who enjoy books by Louise Rennison. Barthemie's voice is well suited to the quietly humorous tone of the series, and she easily switches character focus. Lucy's confusion, joy, and at times desperation are portrayed effectively. The only minor weakness is that during moments when the characters are whispering, the narrator's voice is difficult to hear without changing the volume. A fun listen.

Yes, the Mates, Dates, and...series is the best. I love how each book is told either by TJ, Nesta, Izzie, or Lucy. All the stories are really exiting and the same syuff happens to the girls as to girls in real life!!

I love all of her books.....i think I relate more this book because im the same age as the charecters and you are going through the same problems. You also start to get attached to the charecters and there lives and love lives and things like that. Also the way she explains things gives you like a mental image of the people and there surroundings!!!! So i would defianteley recommend this book to more of the teen age people because you an reall relate to it.

Mates, Dates, and Sole Survivors is a book you cannot miss!!!!!! As you know (if you read Mates, Dates, and Sleepover Secrets) that Tony breaks it off with Lucy. HOW COULD HE?!?!? Lucy is now the odd one out being the one one of our four main characters without a boyfriend. Nestia and Izzie start trying to find Lucy a new guy so she doesn't feel so lonely. This only makes Lucy feel that she really is alone. Soon after Izzie and Lucy go to a workshop (a heath workshop) and while there Lucy finds the guy of her dreams, or is he? Soon after they start dating, he starts making decisions for her. Lucy's head is too far high above in the clouds to notice that this new guy is trying to rule her life. Will Lucy ever listen to her friends or will she let him rule her life forever? There are a lot of firsts in this one of the series. I won't tell you what these firsts are, because that would ruin it for you. You CANNOT miss this one in the series!!!!!
