Overview

Whether you're checking out at the supermarket or cashing in via the stock market, you need a command of basic math to survive in today's number-crunching world.

But many people have problems with math. A decimal here and an exponent there and they've gone from a balanced checkbook to a multi-trillion-dollar national debt. That's why The Princeton Review created Math Smart.

Math Smart's approach is easy to follow. It will show readers how to perform basic math operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Once they've got that down, The Princeton Review will teach them how to handle the scary stuff like exponents, square roots, geometry, and algebra.

How does Math Smart work? It teaches user-friendly techniques that break down complicated problems and equations into their basic parts. Readers won't waste their time memorizing dozens of long formulas and equations.

I have always had a real problem with math, or so I thought. I was taking the SAT 1 and was very worried that my math score would be horrible. We purchased this book, and I worked through all the chapters, all the quizzes, etc. I don't credit the book for the whole thing (I also had other test materials and a math teacher), but I just got my new SAT score last night, and I scored 70 points higher than my last score! I think that 'Math Smart' really helped me: It uses funny, memorable examples and easily understandable instructions to make sure you get all the concepts. It also includes quizzes after every subject to check your progress. I am so grateful for this book!

Absolutely amazing! I bought it for the GRE/GMAT. I was a straight C math student in school. I never understood it. Now I do! There is no doubt in my mind that if I'd had this book in high school I would have been a A student. I finally understand things that I never understood before. Absolutely awesome!!!

"Math Smart" is easy to understand and actually funny at times. (Who ever thought math can elicit an emotion other than dread?) I haven't taken a math class in more than 11 years, and now I have to remember everything I was taught in high school when I take my GRE again for a Ph.D. program. "Math Smart" helped jog my memory, and I had fun reading it, too. If ever I got stuck on a problem, each chapter has an answer key explaining how the author came up with the right answer. Word of advice: be sure to take notes and make flash cards for the terms and formulas, because there are a lot! I'm glad I bought this book -- past math tutorials made me feel inadequate, but "Math Smart" made me remember that I AM smart, and that I knew this stuff all along. It was just hiding in the recesses of my brain and had to be coaxed out.

I dropped out of school in the 9th grade and after 20 years decided to get my GED. I wasn't even sure of the right way to do long division before I looked at this book. I went through it page by page over a few short weeks and got a clear understanding of how math works. I missed 2 questions on my GED test and as I was considering the questions after the test I knew the 2 that I had missed and why before I was told. This book makes learning math FUN. My hat is off to the author !!

this book is an easy read, it helped my raise my ASVAB score from a 47 (AFQT) to a 63! This gave me a 115 General Technical score pretty much allowing for any job I wanted in the military.
