About the Author

Joe Poirier is a mechanical engineer with 30 years of engineering experience in the aerospace and defense industry. He is also a Marine Corps veteran who served as an avionics technician and embassy guard. He was a mediocre high school student who was capable, perplexed, incredulous, and curious-but not earnest at the time. Joe is now a math advocate with many years of experience tutoring middle and high school students. His "math journey" and turnaround, which started in the Marines, resulted in BS Mechanical Engineering, MS Mechanical Engineering, and MBA degrees, and becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical).
