Title: The Last Mountain Man: Matt Jensen Author: William W. Johnson Publisher: Pinnacle -This book ¿The Last Mountain Man¿ by William W. Johnstone is full of excitement and sadness. The story takes place in a mountain where all mountain men are fighting for their survival. The main characters of the story are Matt Cavanaugh and Smoke Jensen. Matt Cavanaugh was nine years old when a band of outlaws slaughtered his family. Now Matt is 18, honed by hardship, steeped in survival and carrying the last name of the man who raised him: Smoke Jensen. With Smoke's wisdom, his own courage and just enough money to start a life, Matt Jensen begins a relentless hunt for the outlaws, led by the deadly Winston Pugh, who murdered his family in cold blood. Pugh won't be hard to find his scarred face gives him away. But Matt soon discovers there's a lot more to vengeance than hunting down a man and that in a clash of guns and guile, true justice is waiting just beyond a town called Perdition. Some parts of the chapter were boring and I hate it because I had to read some pages were Matt and Smoke had to go training. Sometimes I can feel the characters how they interact with each other, specially Smoke, he have been a great leader, although Smoke is the number one mountain man in their town, he doesn¿t use it for evil purposes but to help someone who needs his help. 'I've got a woman here if fen you'd like to spend a little time with her. It'll cost you six bits,' This short quote seems really funny for me. This was when Matt and Smoke went for a stroll at a small town bar. They were talking about girls and stuff. Smoke challenged Matt about his ¿girl skills.¿ Smoke Jensen is the fastest and most famous gunfighter in the West. Raised up by the most famous mountain man of all Preacher, Smoke was taught the ways of the mountain man, and skills with guns. His first wife was Nicole and they had a single son named Arthur. Eventually she and Arthur were both killed and Smoke sought revenge on the murderers. Then he met a woman named Sally Reynold, of the New Hampshire Reynolds. Eventually they fell in love and had a few kids. Smoke finally settled down with Sally up in the High Lonesome of Colorado, then creating their own town named Big Rock which overthrew the original town near there. Their ranch was called the Sugarloaf, and had a large gold vein underneath it. Smoke became a cattle/horse rancher, but then switched to just breeding horses. He soon on one of his many adventures meets a young boy in trouble, kills the man attacking the boy and Smoke and the boy become friends. The boy's name was Bobby and soon Sally and Smoke adopted him. After this Smoke found two of his best hands Pearlie and Cal, Pearlie being the ranch manager and Cal being a hand. Smoke¿s advices to Matt are very serious and it takes a real mountain man to understand the concept of his advices. ¿Don¿t kill for a vengeance but kill the time for the truth¿ I think what Smoke is trying to say is, there is a lot more to vengeance than hunting down a man, and true justice is just waiting around the corner. The author¿s message for the reader is serious. He is trying to tell that being the actual mountain man is not that easy. Specially for Matt¿s condition, his mind is full of bloody revenge for his family who got murdered. I feel really bad for Matt because of what happened to his family. He was only eight years-old when his family was slaughtered by the outlaws. Now Matt is finally in the right age and carrying the last name of the man who raised him: Smoke Jensen. I suggest you guys to read this book. It¿s full of enrapture and problems that is making you solve through your mind. Now a days many people are getting to dislike this kind of book be
