Overview

Matthew's imagination is set racing after a day of playing Secret Monopoly and watching his mother balance her cheque book. At midnight he awakes to find that the money he planted in the yard has bloomed into a money bush. As Matthew is collecting his new-found wealth, he meets Fargo and is invited to play an all-night game of Midnight Monopoly at the bank.

It's hard to know what will happen with the roll of the dice in Midnight Monopoly, but with dangerous pigeons milling about and Matthew on the scene, it's bound to be hilarious.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Fans of this series will delight in another raucous tale. The pace is as frenetic as ever and Michael Martchenko captures the excitement with his boisterous illustrations.

Children's Literature
It is a rainy day, so Matthew plays monopoly by himself while his mother worries about paying bills. At bedtime, Matthew dreams a fantastic money adventure, including animals rolling dice to win money, pigeons stealing cash and moles making mega coins to keep up with inflation. When Matthew wakes up he is sure that the reward money from helping catch the robbers is real, and he drags his sleepy, bemused mother to dig a money bush in the yard. Zany and confusing, fans of the "Matthew's Midnight Adventures" series will enjoy this picture book, too. 2001, Stoddart, $6.99. Ages 4 to 8. Reviewer: Wendy Pollock-Gilson
