Overview

This edition is focused on the works of Edouard Maubert (Calais 1806 - Paris 1879). The Jul edition focuses on the antique vegetable and fruit prints that he created while the Aug edition is focused on the medicinal plants.

The source of antique prints for the August edition, with the exception of the Paris map, are from Flore médicale usuelle et industrielle du XIXe siècle by A. Dupuis and O. Réveil.

Maubert was a prolific painter who contributed to botanical books as well as horticultural journals. He worked with the leading botanists of the day including Jean Loiseleur-Deslongchamps, Charles Lemaire, Charles d’Orbigny, Hippolyte Jaubert and Jean Linden.

The Groupe Edouard Maubert reports that he lived on the rue du Marché aux Chevaux, near the Jardin des Plantes. In 2009, the National Museum of Natural History in Paris paid homage to this artist with an exhibition of his work at the Jardin des Plantes.
