Not worth your time (and money)

A friend of mine worked for Semco in Brazil for a couple of years. 99% of what it is in the book is pure fiction. Don't waste your time.

    So much imagination

Hard to find someone with so much umagination as Ricardo Semler. Semco (and Ricardo himself) has nothing to do with the book. Dont waste your money.

    Fascinating, easy read

If I didn't know better, I'd say this book was fiction. What a courageous and inspiring leader. Anyone with the passion to make the workplace a better place, and the discipline to see it through, should read this book immediately and more than once. My only negative experience with Maverick was reading the last section in with Semlar gives 'tips' on how to work like he does. There is a vast discrepancy between the person I met in the book, and the person who wrote these 'tips'. My suggestion: Skip it!!

Amazing things can happen when you believe in others.

Easily the best business book I've ever read. Semler really connected with me due to his passion for doing things the right way - utmost sincerity. Many books leave the impression that it was written by managers for managers, letting them in on secrets of how to manipulate your people for fun and profit. Not so here. Sure, employee empowerment is not new. What is new here is that whole story of how Semler's 'Entrepreneurial Democracy' came to be. It's not a book by academics focusing on the psychology of teamwork and motivation - it's a book by someone who actually made the change with their own company. You're there with him to see the experiences, problems, and turning points that got them where they are today. For those who are more interested in seeing how these ideas were developed over time instead of simply being told what's the right way to do something - this is your business book.

Your thoughts on people organisation and culture will not be the same again

As a executive from Scandinavia (Denmark) I'm used to work with the latest in organisation (flat) of people and get the best out of the talent all people have on all levels. But this book realy put things into perspective for me. In this book I found ideas and new ways to distribute / delegate decision power down into the organisation where it belongs. It is also a book that gives new meaning to the concept of quality of (work) life and what employees, who are motivated and committed, can do when they get support and trust from management.
