Scott Weidensaul is the author of more than 20 books on nature and wildlife, including Mountains of the Heart: A Natural History of the Appalachians, Max Bonker and the Howling Thieves, and two books in the popular Seasonal Guide to the Natural Year series, and A Kid's First Book of Bird-Watching. Bruce Van Patter has illustrated for a broad range of children's magazines and educational publishers. He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife and three sons.
