    Great for basic truths.

Some of the reviews I read before purchase said the book didn't go in depth enough. It is not a theology class nor does it claim to be. It does however give basic Christian truths on every page and compels the reader to think. Those two things alone make it a must read for Christians.

excellent source of answers for those who have questions about their faith

I have found myself engrossed in Max Lucado's recent book Max On Life. weather your a new believer or been one for years I highly recommend this amazing book. Max answers many of the questions that we have often wonder such as God's stand on sex, and how to overcome anger, guilt. He reaches into the scriptures and gives us a real solid answer that we can grasp. Max shares from his heart what he believes scripture and our heavenly father want us to know about our insecurities and doubts. How we can deal with difficult people and what seem to be impossible situations.Max shares many of the letters he has gotten over the years and answers the writers concerns in a simple yet biblical way that we can all understand and appreciate. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for answers about their life issues and their faith.

The Answers are short and no more than one to two pages long. I warn you the book is long it covers numerous topics which the author breaks down into several chapters covering several letters in each of these chapters. It is a good book especially for new Christians who have many questions about the life God expects us to lead. It is a suitable book for young and old alike.

    Insightful and sensible

I am far from being a devout Christian, although I did have my share of bible verses and Gospel stories when I was a little kid vacationing with my aunt and uncle who were and still are working in the service of God. I may not always gravitate to Christian books, but on the rare occasions that I do I always eventually end up surprisingly satisfied despite having a slough of doubts at the beginning.

Max Lucado's Max On Life is no different, of course. There may have been parts where I just had to raise my brows and roll my eyes, but most of his answers to practical questions really made a lot of sense. Now here's a Christian book that not only teaches us the importance of inviting Jesus into our lives, but also gives sensible insight on how to harness an inner character based as much on bible truths as it is on acceptable social ethics.

The views on death, heaven and hell just seemed too fantastical for me, and some answers just seem to go against the very idea of freewill. Aside from those, however, I found other things to like about this book. For one, it has managed to make more sense out of all those bible verses I had to memorize in childhood. For the other, it did help me think more seriously about my life, my preferences, and my actions in relation to what God expects of me. After all, if there is any Christian principal that I strongly believe in, it is the fact that we have been created by a Higher Power, and that showing gratitude and respect for Him should be part of our daily lives. We may not always conform to what God does with our lives. But Max Lucado assures as that everything that happens to us, happens according to God's plan.

More than insightful and inspirational, this book may just save your life. Whether it's about hope, hurt, help, love, home regrets and death, let Max Lucado's bible-based, and life-based wisdom guide you through this confusing labyrinth more popularly known as life.

    Advice on Life

I have read a few books by Max Lucado. I enjoy his simple, straightforward and often humorous manner of writing.

This book continues my enjoyment of Max' insights. It is a collection of his responses to letters he has received over time. This makes it easy to read a minute or two if you're pressed for time, or longer periods when you can tackle a series of topics. The topics, coming as they do from real people, feel real themselves. While I might not be worried about "Does God allow war?" I might be interested in a reflection on what to do when "groups in a Church compete and bicker and fight." The point is, whether you agree with his answers, he makes you think about a lot of good questions: questions that are on people's minds.

Max on Life by Max Lucado

Max Lucado has been a pastor, family man, writer, and leader for over 30 years. During those years he was been asked a variety of questions. In his newest book Max on Life, he answers the most asked about questions. He answers questions about life, faith, sex, money management, writing, leading, raising kids, mercy, hope, hurt, and a variety of other topics.

Each answer he provides is well written and only about a page long, which makes it a quick and easy read no matter if you have time for one page or several. I found this book to be insightful and encouraging. I believe you would benefit from reading this book no matter where your faith walk is at. I would make this a must read if you're a church leader because it will give you insights on the questions your people will ask you.

    Outstanding Addition to my Bookshelf!

Another Max Lucado book, another favorite. It's almost that easy for me. If Max writes it, I love it. This book is just another shining example of that. I received this ebook during a very difficult time. I was comforted by so many of the insights he gave. This particular book addresses many of the basic questions that every Christian has in the typical easy-to-understand Max Lucado fashion. Some questions are relatively basic, but some of them are the deep, thought-provoking ones that require an in-depth answer. He discusses the purpose of prayer, pain and church. He discusses relationships. This is not necessarily a book that I want to sit down and read in page order. This is a book to consult when I'm enduring a particular heartache or questioning the little things. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat, so much so, in fact, that I bought it for my newly graduated nephew.

    Another Great Book

Max on Life by Max Lucado
In more than twenty-five years of writing and ministry, Max Lucado has been the receiving line for thousands of questions from all types of sources: questions come in letters, e-mails, even on Dunkin Donuts napkins. Lucado offers insightful answers to more than 150 of the most pressing questions.
He is engaging, a good writer, has compelling stories and illustrations, and seeks to point people to the words of Scripture. Lucado has the ability to answer in phrases and concepts that are clear and free from clutter. They are not just his opinions, but he gives God's Word to back up his answers. Included in each response is a personal explanation with scripture references. This is a wonderful book to add to your library.
The book also includes a topical index so that readers can search for a question and answer based on their own questions as well as a scripture index for readers to read and study the scriptures for themselves. This book is a great read for someone new to the faith since many questions new believers face are answered here.
I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson as part of their Booksneeze blogger program.

"Excellent Daily Devotional Resource" - Max On Life by:Max Lucado (Book Review)

Real life questions, real concerns, real issues that every person faces in their life. That is a little snapshot of the content of this book. The questions that are penned down on paper, typed in emails, and maybe even text messages that are a part of the daily flood of inquiries that are presented to minsters, book writers, and family men like Max Lucado give us insight to the magnitude of problems that mankind faces daily. These thoughts are put into print in this magnificent book "Max On Life" for all of us to read and reflect on the very thoughts that have crossed our minds about each of these topics. Max does his very best to answer these questions in a realistic way and even though not everyone will agree with every single answer 100%, I assure you that you will take away something valuable to ponder from each chapter of this book. I have always recommend books written by Max Lucado due to the fact they will minister to your soul in ways that are beyond measure. However, this book would be one that I would recommend that you keep close on hand and use as a resource and part of your daily devotion. The way it is broke down into small sections would make it an easy read everyday for just a little encouragement or insight into real life questions that you might be faced with not only in your own life but maybe you could minister into the lives of others. I cannot say enough about how uplifting this book will be to you. I definantly think that you would want this book in your library. Max has done it again!

Not the Best, Not the Worst

    The Good
Imagine being able to sit down with your favorite uncle and being able to ask him any question you wanted, and getting the God's Holy truth instead of a flatulence joke, that's much the overall feeling of this book. Much like the "Dear Abby" section of a newspaper this book is a compilation of questions from people at varying stages of their faith. Some question you would expect, such as: "Who is God? What is he like?" and "Does God allow War?" and some surprised me such as: "What does God think of suicide victims?" and "What sexual items and activities are acceptable to God?" It's just not ground I expected him to cover, but cover it he did with all the wisdom and candor you could expect from a man who has spent a lifetime in the ministry. Much to my surprise I completely agreed with most of what he had to say in response, I may have gone more in-depth than he did in some places, but that probably isn't the intended audience for the book, which in a way is sad, but I can also understand it's a fine line between going deep and beating a dead horse. He quotes the Bible in his responses almost as much if not more so than speaking his own words, admitting that scripture often says it better than he or anyone else could, which is what any good pastor should do, refer to the full council of scripture.

    The Bad
With a quote from America's Pastor Rick Warren on the back jacket of the book I wanted to find much wrong with this book. I wanted to not like the book at all and write a scathing review, but alas I cannot. As I stated in my previous paragraph Lucado speaks from the full council of scripture...HOWEVER the scripture he quotes is often from the Message Paraphrase of the Bible. My other biggest concern is on page 11 with the question "What does it mean to be saved" (that's my paraphrase of the essence of the question) Lucado seems to have a very Arminian understanding of what it means to be saved based on how he breaks down John 3:16. This Arminianism comes through in other places in the book, but it is here that it stuck out to me the most. Is there a huge, insurmountable problem with Arminianism? No...Arminians place their saving faith in Christ alone...this is the only requirement to be saved, As a Calvinist I just see it differently, I would say more clearly but these are secondary issues for the most part. So why make note of it? Well, that leads me to my conclusion.

    Conclusion
Max on Life is a good book overall, and surprisingly for someone with so many books to his credit, Lucado is not very repetitive of his past material. The book can help answer some questions that maybe some would be afraid or embarrassed to ask their pastor. Is it high on my list to recommend to people...no, but it's not near the bottom which is much higher than I thought it would end up when I began reading it.

need answers? this might be the book for you

in this book, Max answers simple, basic questions that a Christian gets from day-to-day. i love the simple, short answers he gives that hits straight to the point. for instance, a few days ago, i was asked by a non-Christian why i believe Jesus resurrected. The person said, anything could've happened, Jesus' body could have been taken by people who wanted to make his death mysterious. And i was at a blank on what to answer. Until i read this book today. =) Do you want to know the answer to that question? Read this book! (i'm not gonna spoil the surprise)

    Max does it again!

Max Lucado's book "Max on Life" is a book chock full of great answers. As a best- selling author, Max has many fans, who have sent him letters over the years asking for his sage advice. For those of you who have had the pleasure of reading Max Lucado books in the past, you know that Max has a way of bringing the scriptures alive in a way that so many of us can understand them a little bit better and easily relate . In this book, Max has broken down his many "questions" posed by readers into different categories ranging from needing Hope-"how do I forgive the unforgiveable?" to questions on "Marriage and Home", "How can we regain some balance in our lives?" ,to questions of Heaven and Hell-"Will I recognize my loved ones in heaven?", and all sorts of other subjects besides. The questions and answers usually range from a page to a page and a half so the book can be read in smaller chunks, if so desired. Max tackles so many really important questions in a clear, concise and scriptural way that I really recommend this for everyone's library as it is so nice to be able to refer quickly and easily to the different sections- and a topical index is provided at the end of the book for easy reference. Lastly, Max has an addendum at the end of the book for aspiring writers out there to help provide them with encouragement and direction. This is yet another Max Lucado "wonder-book" that you don't want to miss!
