Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Ruby is waiting for her friend Louise to arrive because she is bringing a doctor's kit and they plan to play doctor and nurse. Poor Max, as Ruby's younger brother he is the patient. Max really wants to draw and each time they try to check his eyes, ears, or reflexes, he asks for his colored markers. They put his arm in a sling and tell him to go to bed, but wily Max slips away and while the girls are busy he uses his red marker to give himself a good case of the chicken pox. The illustrations and text are based on characters created by Rosemary Wells, but this book is an adaptation from the animated series. A Level 2 book in the "Penguin Young Readers" series. Also designated as Guided Reading Level "G," this transitional reader offers simple dialogue, picture and content clues and contains a note to parents and teachers on the opening page. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
