Overview

In the fifth book of the Calendar Mysteries—a new early chapter book mystery series featuring the younger siblings of the A to Z Mysteries detectives—twins Bradley and Brian Pinto are getting ready to celebrate Mother's Day by treating their mom to a show by Hypo, the world's greatest hypnotist. Brian hopes that if Hypo can hypnotize his mom into loving ducks, then she will let him raise ducks in their backyard. But when the Pinto family gets home from the show, the twins' mom starts acting strange. She splashes in the bathtub for hours, she leaves corn kernels all over, and—could it be?—she quacks! Bradley thinks his mom has actually turned into a duck! How did this happen? Can Bradley and Brian, with help from their friends Lucy and Nate, turn their mom back into their mom?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Lisette Baez
This is the fifth book of the "Calendar Mysteries" series. A great chapter book, it captures the twins Brian and Bradley Pinto on another case for the A to Z detective agency. The brothers want to do something special for their mom for Mother's Day and decide to take her to see Hypo, the world's greatest hypnotist. The twins are hoping that Hypo can hypnotize their mom into loving ducks so that she will allow them to raise ducks in their backyard. The Pintos have a great time but something isn't quite right when they arrive home after the show. Their mother starts acting strange. Her peculiar behavior leads Bradley to believe that his mother has been hypnotized into believing she is a duck! Now the twins must figure out how to turn their mom back into herself. They enlist the help of their friends Lucy and Nate to solve this case. The illustrations capture the essence of the plot, and the large font and the brief chapters provide the perfect start for early readers. This is a great introduction to chapter books with humor and suspense that will captivate even the most reluctant reader. Reviewer: Lisette Baez
