    Rich and poor, various classes, this book has it all

    I read this book about 10 years ago and still remember its impact ... now I am the mother of (1) son. This book looks at many different issues from careers to family planning to weddings, via the perspectives of women in various socio-economic rungs in India. My lasting impressions: a complex society, one we in the West cannot generalize about, and one worth getting to know. Makes you realize how much of your life is an accident of birth ...

    This book had its ups and downs

    As far as the title goes... well it tells you everything... What you see is what you get, and this book definetely focuses on the women of India. That is all Bumiller does, interview Indian Women throughout the whole book! Well, don't take this interview the wrong way, the book obviously wasn't that interesting to me because I was required to read it, and as fascinating as Indian women are, they are not my favorite subject to read about. So if you are interested in Indian women or oppression of women in general, I definetely recommend this book for you!
