Overview

Images is one of those bands whose music exists, it seems, for the sole purpose of not offending anyone. Their Maybe the Moon project is chock full of pleasant, easygoing, very pretty tunes that radio stations get in line to eat up. All are quite nice but there just isn't enough spark to make it a keeper. There are a few bright lights along the way -- such as Lee Bartley's tight synth runs and Rich Sallee's moody bass solos -- but the concept too often seems to be "just keep it simple." Newcomers to smooth jazz may find melodies like these enough, but longtime genre fans have heard too much that is more exciting and will want more energy and flair than this disc is prepared to offer. The images are certainly likable, but maybe these guys should concentrate more on what lies behind them.
