I shopped around a lot in the math workbooks aisles at two local Barnes&Noble stores. I chose the McGraw-Hill because it doesn't assume that I, as a parent, know how to explain the math concepts within. Each new concept starts with a page of explanations before the child is expected to do the exercises. I also purposefully chose this line because there are two ways to work through them. One is to just follow the school year and do one lesson per day. Or, use the handy 10-week planner in the front of the book. McGraw-Hill has set up a calendar how the whole book can be completed over 10 weeks by bundling certain lessons. The bundles are designed to be worked through in about 30 minutes. So there are some days where there are up to four short lessons together, while on other days there is only one more involved lesson. I find the format to assume about 30 minutes of daily enrichment during summer to be perfect. Even the busiest families should be able to fit that time in, and the fact that the lessons are spread out over summer means there won't be any summer learning loss. I can highly recommend this series of math workbooks. I wish McGraw-Hill had something comparable for vocabulary, reading, and writing skills.
