McKay's Bees

( 3 )

Overview

Moving from Massachusetts to Kansas in 1855 with his new wife and a group of German carpenters, Gordon McKay is dead set on making his fortune raising bees - undaunted by Missouri border ruffians, newly-minted Darwinism, or the unsettled politics of a country on the brink of civil war.

    Redtears story chapter 7

Redpaw was grooming her fur. Spiderpaw was shating toughs with hawkpaw. Redpaw priked her ears as she heard screechs. She padded out to wjat was wrong. But all she saw was owlkit, jaykit, and turkykit screeching their ears off. "Stop it you three." Scolded moonstar coming out from the nursery. "Yes mommy." The three kits said together. Smallily padded over. "Moonstar i need to have a word with you." Moonstar nodded and paddded toward her den with smallily. Moonstar padded out a little while later. "Smallily, please take care of your little brothers while i make these anchouments." Moonstar leaped onto the mossledge. "Let all cats old enouf to hunt gather benithe mossledge!" Cats settled down under the mossledge. "I am pleased to say we have 3 aprentives that are ready to defend this clan with a warriir name!" A loud cheer rang around the ckearing. "Redpaw hawkpaw and spiderpaw please step forward. Do you promiss to uphold the warrior code as long as you live?" "I do." Ansered the three aprentices. "They have stuidied hard to learn your noble code and will now become warriors. Spiderpaw, from this day forward you will be known as spiderheart. Starclan honors your firceness and knowlege. Redpaw from this day forward you will be known as redtear. Starclan honors your skill and kindness. Hawkpaw, from this day forward you will be known as hawkclaw. Starclan honors your loyalty and bravery." "SPIDERHEART REDTEAR HAWKCLAW SPIDERHEART REDTEAR HAWKCLAW!" The cats yowled. "Redtear spiderheart and hawkclaw will sit vigle over the clan tonite. No talking but if one of you begins to fall asleep one of you may prod the othet awake. Hawkclaw padded over to the reed barrior. Redtear and zpiderheart followed him. All was quiet the first few hours. Redtear saw spiderheart prick his ears in the darkness. "Come on!" Redtear heard someone hiss. "Their all asleep!" Redtear went into a hunters crouch and wiggked forward till she saw seven dark shapes. Introders! She thought. She wiggked back to the reed barrior. "Atack now!" She heard a hiss. The cats ran toward the reed barrior. Redtear hawkclaw and spider heart silently fought them. Redtear heard hawkclaw utter a small cry of pain. Soon only two cats where left too fight. Redtear helped spiderheart fight off obe of the cats. Hawkclaw fought off the other. They settled back down and while one cleaned its wounds, the other two kept wach. Soon redtear saw the morning sun. Soon the dawn patril walked out of camp. Redtear stood up and sreched. Hawkclaw and spiderheart did the same. "Good morning warriors." Redtear tured around to see stormyheart. "good morning." Moonstar padded toward them. "What happened?" Moonstar asked. "We must get you to goosefeather and butterflypelt." Moonstar led them toward the medacine cat den so butterflypelt and goosefeather could pach them up. Butterflypelt re-cleaned their wounds and put marygold and cobwebs on their ingurys. "Does it hurt?" She asked them. "No." They all said together. "Good." By butterflykit. Should i write more? (Have to chage nook)

    more from this reviewer

Where did this book come from?

Puzzleing all the way through. And then, Wow! one realizes that this was a very exceptional little book. So deceptively simple, so full of odd historical facts (someone checked them out---all verifiable!)and then so impossible to catagorize. A dose of early nineteenth century hardship and intellectual brilliance, readable in an evening.
