Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
If you’re already MCSE certified on Windows 2000, there’s a shortcut to Windows Server 2003 certification. You “only” need to pass two new exams: 70-292 and 70-296. That’s still a lot of very technical content. If you’re serious, we recommend Microsoft Learning’s Upgrading Your Certification to Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

A lot of experience has gone into this book. (Its lead author supports Windows servers at organizations ranging from GE to Los Alamos National Laboratories.) If it’s new in Windows Server 2003, it’s well covered here. User/group management changes. Remote Assistance and other administration tools. RSoP for safely preparing new group policies. Automated System Recovery. Security templates. And a whole raft of Active Directory improvements (e.g., cross-forest trust relationships).

If you’ve used Microsoft study guides before, you’ll find they’ve been “reengineered” with more scenarios, more troubleshooting coverage, and more real-world stuff -- including “off the record” sidebars that warn you when things don’t work the way you expect.

With this book, you also get two CD-ROMs. The first contains a 180-day trial version of Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition. (So you can get hands-on experience, even if your company hasn’t upgraded.)

The other contains 850 sample exam questions, troubleshooting labs, plus the whole study guide in printable PDF (usable on your Pocket PC, too). Microsoft also threw in two excellent tech encyclopedias: Microsoft Encyclopedia of Security and Microsoft Encyclopedia of Networking, Second Edition.

Put it all together, and you don’t just have great exam prep: You have a great Windows Server 2003 upgrade reference. Bill Camarda
