    Good book

The book is very explanatory if you thinking to take the test you should go all over from the begining to the end.I will suggest you to install the evaluation version that comes with the book and practice all the lab and question that will help a lot. The exam isn't easy and require a lot of knowledges and skill. The question aren't the same from the book or the CD practice questions.Otherwise everyone will pass the test and the MCSA or MCSE will be worthless.Microsoft will assessment your knowledge as if you were in the job. I will recommend this book to take the test, however you have to study hard and also get other source from other books the better you prepare The better chances you have to pass the test.

    Good starter book

I don't know what Microsoft Press is thinking. There should be a revised book for this test by now. I read this book cover to cover and went and toke the test. I got a 648, passing is 700. 85% of the questions in the test are not covered in the book. You have to start somewhere, so you might as well start with this book. Make sure that you run through all of the questions on the CD provided with this book, then go out and buy the Exam Cram book. It will fill in the blanks and help you nail the test. I recently passed the test with a score of 815. This test is not easy. Study, Study, Study, Pray, and then Study some more..

    Good study guide

This was a good study guide. Don't expect to pass the test with only this study guide, though. It definitely does not cover the majority of test questions. It does cover the objectives. I recommend reading this book as a beginning and getting more info from another study guide and technet. My only wish would be that MS would put more test material in the books and not so many external references. You could spend your career just reading the references even if you have experience with the product.

Great starter for migrating from NT4 and 2000

This book is a great primer for getting into the realm of Windows Server 2003 from an older Windows environment. True the book does not go nearly as deep or complex as the others, but the lessons and labs will have you maintaining your servers from the get go. I really like the format of the book. Starts out with an Intro, to Lesson, to Labs, then onto a review of the chapter. I highly recommend this book to anyone new to the 2003 world.

    Good coverage of exam material.

I am studying for the MSCE in Windows Server 2003. This text covers all of the objectives for the 70-290 exam. This book also includes a Prometric exam discount voucher and a set of practice questions on the CD in addition to those in the text. The exam objectives listed on Microsoft's site are covered by this text. The coverage is not deep, but is adequate for those that are attempting the exam. This is suitable for an exam resource, but those wishing to dig deeper will still need to consult Technet. The questions in the second part of the book appear well written and are somtimes quite long. This mirrors some of the lengthy questions on the actual exam and this aspect of the text was refreshing. Most certification textbooks skimp on the practice questions adding them as an afterthought rather than a feature. In general if you are able to pass the questions in this section of the text, the exam should present little difficulty. The questions included in the CD are not always of the same quality and are not at the level that you would find on the exam. If you have no experience with Windows 2000 or 2003 you will not pass the exam regardless of which text you buy. If you have experience, of the newly published resources for the 2003 exams, this is one of the better ones. Microsoft press has done a good job with this title.
