MCTS Windows 7 Configuration Study Guide: Exam 70-680 3.4 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 8 reviews.

I am studying for the Microsoft MCTS Windows 7 Configuring exam. I've passed many exams in the past ten years, and my technique has always involved reading a Microsoft certification title, taking a class/lab, and then choosing one or two more books to fill in the gaps. I'm happy to say that this book was a great choice for me. The book was laid out in the order of the objectives, so it mirrored my studies at school and what I was reading in my lab book. When I didn't understand something fully in a lab, I could refer to this book to learn more. The author offers a different perspective, and was just what I needed to round out my studies. There are lots of things you have to memorize to pass an exam though; you can't just read a book and do labs. You have to know what the installation requirements are, how many volumes and partitions you can create on basic and dynamic disks, and lots more. The tables in this book offer a good place to memorize these facts. Facts are much easier to memorize if they're laid out in some kind of table. I was also pleased to find out that the entire book was on a disk at the back of the book. It was a PDF. I put that on my iPad and read it wherever I was and had time. There is also a test engine on the CD complete with lots of test questions, and there were digital flash cards. It makes for a great reference. I was surprised at all of the things on the disk, and the disk alone was well worth the price. If you're studying for this exam, this is a good book to read or use as a study reference. While no one, single book can get you through any Microsoft exam, if you work through this book and the exercises that go with it, complete all of the practice tests both on the CD and at the end of each chapter, you'll be pretty darned close to passing.

The Sybex books have been very easy for me to read and have broken the chapters down into real life scenarios. You almost feel like the author is your best friend with the wording used in the book like he is talking directly to you, just like any friend would. All of the illustrations and examples in the book really make the reading easy to follow. The most important feature that I love in the book is the exercises you get to complete in order for you to understand the task you just learned after reading the chapter sections of the book. The note feature illustrated in the book also makes it easy to remember the very important stuff in the book that you might have overlooked. Another amazing part of this book is the ease of readability and ability to comprehend what the author is saying. The review questions at the end of each chapter allow you to test your knowledge on the information you just studied.
