Overview

“This funny, fetching tale will bring chuckles—and a lesson—to any child with a tendency to echo Pinkerton’s cries of ‘Me first.’” –Publishers Weekly

Pinkerton Pig will do anything to be first—first down the slide, first in line at the trough-a-teria, first on the bus. His pushy ploys backfire on a Pig Scouts hike when he hears the magic words “Would you care for a sandwich?” Little does he know, he’s being tricked by a sandcastle-dwelling Sandwitch in need of care! How long will Pinkerton be doomed to powder her warty nose? This cheery look at the dangers of piggishness is now part of a fun hardcover series about life lessons.

My daughter (now 19 & she still has her childhood copy) had me read her this book every night and now my 5 year old niece loves it too. Fun!

A plump pink pig hustles to be first in line, first to eat and first to get more than he bargained for.

Me First, by Helen Lester, is a hilarious story of a pig that always wants to be first. During the course of this story, however, Pinkerton the pig learns that being first sometimes comes with a high price. Lester uses language in a fun way that even children as young as five understand as a "play on words." I would highly recommend this as a classroom tool to illustrate the pitfalls of always needing to be first and the effects it can have on yourself and those around you.

Every one of my kindergarten students listened attentively to this story. The dialogue has a natural tone that makes the characters come alive. What a great way to reinforce the need to share and take turns.

I was a grammar school librarian and every year our Principal read this book to the 1st grade class. They loved it and didn't realize they were learning also. I recommendfed this book to all of the other librarians.
