Overview

And so, a new chapter in the life of Richard J. Codey, an undertaker's son born and bred in the Garden State, began on the night of August 12, 2004--he knew from that point his life would never be the same . . . and it hasn't been. His memoir is a breezy, humorous, perceptive, and candid chronicle of local and state government from a man who lived among political movers and shakers for more than three decades. Codey became governor of New Jersey, succeeding James McGreevey, who resigned following a homosexual affair--a shattering scandal and set of circumstances that were bizarre, even for the home state of the Sopranos. At once a political autobiography, filled with lively, incisive anecdotes that record how Codey restored respectability and set a record for good politics and good government in a state so often tarnished, this is also the story about a man and his family.

Editorial Reviews

former U.S. Senator - Bill Bradley

"Dick Codey is a dedicated public servant, a state senator, and former governor who has done extraordinary things. Me, Governor? shows Governor Codey as a man of humility, humor, and honor. It is a book that will make you laugh and cry, and his story is one you haven't heard before."
Owner, New York Jets - Woody Johnson

"Dick Codey may have been 'the accidental governor', but what he got done in his brief time in office was no accident. Instead of running out the clock, he used his forceful, dynamic personality to drive change, most notably brokering an agreement for the New Meadowlands Stadium. This book is an insightful and entertaining look at his journey."
Mayor of the City of New York - Michael R. Bloomberg

"Dick Codey has seen it all in politics—and then some. He knows how to tell a story and in Me, Governor? we get the full Codey: honest, down-toearth, and funny as hell."

    I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed!

I've known Governor Codey for many years and have always enjoyed his leadership sense and humor which clearly come across in his book. I truly was not sure what to expect when I first picked the book because I typically dislike these type of books. He is able to disarm you his ability to tell great stories about every facet of his life, not just politics. You will not be disappointed!

    Great Little Book

I couldn't put this book down, I read it over a weekend. While a lot of the content was info I knew from following New Jersey politics, the Govern gave a humorous slant on it. The personal stuff it contained was interesting and made and showed a more human side of the man. I liked it so much I loaned it out to some friends and purchased a couple of extra copies to give as gifts for the holiday season.
