Me: A Compendium: A Fill-in Journal for Kidsby Wee Society
Inventive, hilarious and joyously colorful, this fill-in journal was designed to help kids capture nearly everything that’s uniquely rad about them. With design-savvy, yet completely kid-friendly illustrations, they’re asked to draw or write about a bunch of interesting things — like what their hair looks like, what their band name would be, what they’d bring to outer space, and how they feel about lightning, lizards and pickles. There may or may not be a place for super-secret stuff inside the book jacket. Whether kids complete their entire compendium on a rainy day, or finish it over a year, it’ll become a treasure to look back on and smile.

This book is awesome! It's a journal of sorts. First of all, the child can decorate the cover with a picture of himself (or herself). My son had a blast drawing himself. The inside of the book is full of prompts for kids to record their likes, dislikes, favorites, etc. My brother had Dr. Seuss' My Book All About Me when he was little, and I was always so jealous that I didn't have one. This book is very much the same. It's perfect for kids who know how to read, but are still young enough to need the prompts to help their imaginations go wild. This book will make the perfect Christmas present (in fact I've already bought it for my niece and nephew). It will keep kids entertained on long car rides or plane rides or at home. I know we'll be traveling with our copy this holiday season. In addition to being a fun activity for kids, it's also a great keepsake. Writing in a book is a very special experience, but having the record of their interests, handwriting, and drawings for year to come is why I was sad I never had a book like this, and it's why I'm so happy to have this book now for my son. I can't wait to see what he thinks at age 16 about "I love you" being his favorite thing to say. http://www.momsradius.com/2016/11/kid-lit-me-compendium.html
I have seen Me categorized as a diary. And, well, while I think you can make a case for that, I think that Me is so much more. It's a creativity portal, an imagination sparker. It's a time-capsule for a child - a place where s/he can capture those inspirations and ideas that are unique to current state of mind. Me lets a child take a snapshot of a state of life - one that s/he is in the process of outgrowing - and that snapshot is more than just a pic taken with a smartphone. This is a sturdy, hardcover bound book that will last for years. Each page has a prompt - not just a writing prompt, but visual imagery that stirs the imagination. Sometimes the responses are to be written, and sometimes, they're to be drawn or sketched. I really, really love this book and what it offers children. I wish I had found it when all my children where younger. I received a complimentary copy of Me for review purposes. Any opinion expressed here is mine alone.
I know there are adult "coloring books" and it's all the rage now. But, I am 55 years old and have been reading and interacting with the book "ME: A Compendium" by Wee society in my spare time. It is a blast to do. I've doodled, able to draw pictures and learned a bit about my likes and who I am and reminds me of my childhood. I believe kids will have a blast with this book, and learn something too. lots of room to use the imagination and draw and write. The inside jacket has a surprise too, maybe! Colorful and attention getting. I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review. I would recommend this book for anyone's child or grandchild to explore and have fun!
