Featuring a book by Tina Fey, who wrote the 2004 source film, music by Fey's husband Jeff Richmond (Fully Committed), and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (
Legally Blonde),
Mean Girls opened on Broadway in April of 2018. The original Broadway cast recording followed a month later, led by Erika Henningsen as high school transfer student Cady Heron and Taylor Louderman as popular girl Regina George. With an emphasis on humor (including up-to-date social media references), melody, lively arrangements, and a persistently playful tone, song highlights include "Sexy" with Kate Rockwell as Karen, and tap number "Stop," featuring Grey Hanson's Damian.
Mean Girls was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. ~ Marcy Donelson
