Maureen Green.

Lilley is worried about being on the school bus with Mean Maureen. Luckily, her new friend Adam has some plans in mind for getting back at the school-bus bully. It’s time to stop being a wimp!

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-Lilley looks forward to third grade until she learns that mean Maureen Green will be on her school bus. She dreads meeting up with the bully, but she is even more terrified of riding the new bike she got for her birthday-without training wheels. Ever since she lost control on a bike when she was four, she's been afraid to ride at all. She lives with her father and a housekeeper-her mother lives in another state-and her life seems pretty bleak. Then, with help from Adam, a new boy, and her dad, she conquers her fears and stands up to Maureen. All is resolved, though perhaps too easily. While children may be able to identify with her anxieties, they may have difficulty believing her speedy turn around. Frequent black-and-white cartoons add a touch of humor and capture the intent of the characters. "Lilley's Bicycle Safety Tips" are appended. Louis Sachar's "Marvin Redpost" books (Random) are more successful as is C. Anne Scott's Lizard Meets Ivana the Terrible (Holt, 1999), which is also about bullies. Still, libraries in need of more beginning chapter books might consider this one.-Kay Bowes, Concord Pike Library, Wilmington, DE Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|
