Meant for Love
A New York Times and USA Today Bestseller!

She's waited a long time for her second chance at love...

It's been twelve years since Jenny Wilks lost her fiancé in the 9/11 attacks in New York City. Since then she's been floundering, trying to find her way. Taking the job as lighthouse keeper on Gansett Island was the best thing she could've done for herself. On the island she's found amazing friends and a wonderful new life. There's only one thing missing and that's romance. She's recently asked her new friends to fix her up with some of the island's more eligible men. While her friends are busy arranging dates for her, Alex Martinez comes to cut the grass at the lighthouse.

He's given up everything to come home to Gansett to care for his ailing mother...

Alex has gone from cultivating orchids at the US Botanic Garden in Washington to cutting grass on Gansett, like he did as a teenager. Running the family business with his brother while managing their mother's dementia requires Alex's undivided attention until a sexy lighthouse keeper shows him there's much more to life than work and endless obligation.

During a scorching summer heat wave on Gansett, Jenny and Alex take comfort in each other, and what begins as a hot summer fling quickly becomes something much more lasting. But will it hold up beyond the heat wave when real life intrudes on their sexy interlude?

Catch up with many of your favorite characters from past Gansett Island books in this latest installment in the New York Times bestselling McCarthys of Gansett Island Series!

    Mintcloud's Shadow ~ Chapter 12

The sun seemed to be sinking under the mountains faster now that the patrol was frozen to the spot under an unspoken order. It was only luck they happened to be behind a holly bush, hidden from whoever was across the river. The sounds of twigs crunching and pine needles snapping suddenly stopped. Mintkit felt as if her heart would explode. Her lungs, too, for that matter. She had to keep reminding herself to breath.
*Did it see us? Scent us? Why else did it stop?* She wondered. Suddnly, a whispering voice slithered like a snake into her ear. She almost jumped out of her fur. Then she realized it was Tabbypelt trying to talk to her.
"You're the smallet & hardest to see out of this patrol. Very slowly, get low to the ground and creep forward to see this cat better." His strained, whispering voice was hardly audible. But Mintkit took a deep breath, gathering up all the bravery she had.
*I can do this.* Inch by tedious inch, she turned her head to the river and began her slow, careful descent to the ground. It took minutes to crawl forward until she could see out of the branches. Before she did, the painful sound of sobbing came from across the river. Out of curiosity & concern, it drove Mintkit to go faster. When she finally could peek out of the branches, the scene in front of her was an easy puzzle. And once she put the peices together, the image was horrifying.
A ScorchClanner was sitting next to the river, body jerking with sobs. It was a relief that she showed no signs of seeing the patrol. But it was strange how she was sitting so close to the edge of the river; the deepest part of it where the current was the strongest, by the looks of it. She immidiately felt sick to her stomache; this cat was going to ki<_>ll herself.
"Guys. You'd better come take a look at this. It's ok; she doesn't know we're here," she quickly added when Tabbypelt, Dustpath, & Goldenstone looked doubtful. The trio joined the kit and took a good look at the cat, her tears, and the roaring river. Goldenstone was the first one to proccess it.
"Well, there'll be one less ScorchClanner to deal with tomorrow," he snorted.
"No doubt," agreed Dustpath. "That's the most dangerous section of the river. Why else would she be sitting so close to it?" Mintkit felt anger that the two toms made no big deal of it. This was a serious, saddenig deal. Weren't they going to help her? She glanced up at her father, waiting for his responce. His eyes were as large as an owl's and his jaw hung agape.
"Tabbypelt? What do you think? Hello? Anyone in there?" Mintkit joked, waving a paw in font of his face. Then a loud /SPLASH!/ erupted from the river. This somehow triggered Tabbypelt to react and he shot forward, fear-scent oozing from him like a mouse about to be fresh-kill. He sprinted for the river yelling,
"Maple! Maple, I'm here!" Then he jumped into the river after her, risking his life to save this cat that somehow he knew.
-&#1071|Reflections&#9830

I love this entire series of books and how the author weaves the updates through each, so we don't lose sight
     of
our favorite characters. This book was especially touching because of the inclusion of Alex and Paul's
    mother,

Marion, living with the effects of dementia.

I have to agree with another reader who said the books
     are too short.

Meant for Love is Jenny's story and I have been looking forward

Meant for Love is Jenny's story and I have been looking forward to this book since the character was first introduced in the series. Jenny lost her fiancé in the 9/11 attacks in New York. It has been 12 years since his death and Jenny moves to the island to work (and live) at the islands lighthouse. She comes to the island to try to start a new life, away from all the sympathetic looks she receives in her hometown. With the help of her new friends she starts dating again but hasn't met "the guy". That is until she meets Alex Martinez. Alex recently moves back to the island to help take care of his mother. Alex is also tired of all the sympathetic attention he receives, so when he meets Jenny there is an instant spark. Actually it is smoking hot!!! Author Marie Force does an incredible job in creating the chemistry between Jenny and Alex. Plus they really are meant for each other – they are both dealing with heartache and finally meet someone who truly understands what they are going through (and not just sympathizing).

I loved every moment we spent with Jenny and Alex. But I was disappointed in some of the side stories. It is nice to catch up with other characters but for this book I felt there were too many interruptions (we heard about 5 couples). I felt they were too distracting. I did love hearing about Janey and Joe (since there was a shocking ending for them in book 9 – Time for Love), but I would have loved to hear more of Luke and Sydney. Despite this I still love the series and can’t wait to read more.

Marie Force is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are well written and have characters you can relate to and fall in love with. I love the small community setting which makes it more realistic. Her stories are filled with love, romance, family togetherness and friendships. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

I really enjoyed reading the books in this series and this one was no exception. The only problem I had was with the swear words.I got turned off by it. But the story itself was great.
