Overview

She's running from her past, he's unsure about his future. Maybe together they can figure out what was MEANT TO BE...

Officer Garrett Jamison is at the lowest point in his life. He's lost faith in his ability as a police officer after unwittingly setting his sister up with a dirty cop. Garrett ended up getting shot, and his sister's son kidnapped right out of his own bed. He takes a leave from the force, in need of some time to make a decision about his future. Too bad he can't get a decent night's sleep thanks to his sexy new neighbor and her howling cat.

Jessica McGovern moves halfway across the country to start a new life in Green Bay, Wisconsin after her ex-husband is convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of their young son. Her new neighbor is as infuriating as he is handsome, but when her ex is released from prison early and shows up in town, Jessica discovers she's never needed anyone more.

Excerpt:

He just wanted to get to know the obstinate woman...

"I'm a pretty good listener, Jess. And anything you tell me would be strictly confidential. You have my word."

She looked up at him with those big blue eyes, and the temptation to pull her into his arms nearly overpowered him. Their earlier kiss had been cut short, and he hadn't been able to think about much since.

"There's nothing to tell," she insisted. "I got married too young, and he turned out to be a total loser. End of story."

Having hoped she would open up to him, Garrett felt a surprising sense of disappointment. "Fine.
If that's the way you want it, I won't push." He swiped his fingers through his hair. "Your business is your business."

"Finally," she said with a playful roll of her eyes. "Listen, it's been great fun and all, but I have to get up early for work. So, if you wouldn't mind..." She gestured toward the door.

Garrett shook his head and chuckled. "Woman, you are hell on a man's ego."

"Somehow, I think you'll live."

"Well?" He stood up and motioned her forward. "Aren't you going to send me off with a good night kiss?"

She let out a delicate snort. "You act as if we're dating or something. Hell, we just got past our mutual dislike of each other."

"Is 'mutual dislike' what you were feeling when you wrapped your arms and legs around me in the kitchen?" he asked, annoyed by her casual attitude. "Because it's definitely not what I was feeling."

"I see your ego isn't as delicate as you thought it was."

Garrett reached down, grasped both her hands, and hauled her to her feet. He gazed down at her, holding her tight against him with one hand, while the other worked the ponytail holder from her hair. Gently, he finger-combed the silky blonde tendrils away from her face while gazing down at her lips, fighting the urge to kiss her breathless.

"The hell with it," he whispered, losing the battle, and took her mouth with fierce possession.

Jessica melted into him without hesitation. She wrapped her arms around his neck and slanted her mouth beneath his, meeting the thrust of his tongue with a sexy little moan.

Garrett had to use every bit of his self-control to keep from stripping her naked and taking her right there on the floor. He wanted to taste every inch of her, make her burn for him, hunger for him. And she could deny it 'til the cows came home,
but the way she responded to him was all the proof he needed--Jessica wanted him just as much.

Meet the Author

USA Today Bestselling author Donna Marie Rogers inherited her love of romance from her mother. Romance novels, soap operas, Little House on the Prairie--her mother loved them all. And though it wasn't until years later Donna would come to understand her mother's fascination with Charles Ingalls, Donna's love of the romance genre is every bit as all-consuming. Though Donna loves to read anything from vikings to vampires, her heart is with small town romance.

A Chicago native, Donna now lives in beautiful Northeast Wisconsin with her husband and children. She's an avid gardener and home-canner, as well as an admitted reality TV junkie. Her passion to read is only exceeded by her passion to write, so when she's not doing the wife and mother thing, you can usually find her sitting at the computer, creating exciting, memorable characters, fresh new worlds, and always happily-ever-afters.

    Meant to Be

This was a great fast read. Jessica McGovern is running from a painful past and packs up and moves to WI. Her neighbor Garret Jamison is a police officer who has taken a leave of absence to clear his head after he starts questioning his own ability to do his job right. He and Jessica do not meet on the best of terms and her pesty cat keeps irritating Garrett. Jessica's past and ex catches up with her and Garrett's family gets pulled into the mess. Garret and Jessica end up falling for each other. After the incident between her ex and Garrett she runs back to Seattle to her parents. Garrett comes to Seattle to work things out with her and I found my self routing for them to reconcile. This was an easy read book and Good!

    Confused by previous review...

The scene mentioned in the previous reviewer's SPOILER ALERT never happened. I've read this book (twice!) and the only woman the hero sleeps with is the heroine. The heroine witnesses a kiss (another woman kisses the hero), but that's all that happens. The reviewer may have confused this book with another.

    Disappointing

I was looking forward to this after readind the first in the series, but what a letdown! Jessica has to be the most unlikeable, unsympathetic character I've met in a long time. Garrett deserved better, but he evidently was too stupid to realize it.

After I read the 1st book of this series I knew I would buy Meant To Be. Interesting, fun to read. The story line was very good, intriguing! You won't want to put the book down!

    Loved it! Suspenseful and intriguing!

Book 2 was just as good as book 1! Garrett is grumpy, domineering, and brooding...except when it comes to his nephew. Enter Jessica, his next door neighbor. Garrett and Jessica quickly realize that while they live to push each other's buttons, it's only to hide their attraction for each other. Jessica's past comes back in full force, while Garrett's future are hanging in the balance as well. Are they Meant To Be? This series is wildly entertaining as I found myself chuckling at some of the things they say and do. Plus, throw in suspense and you have a great series. Can't wait to check out Danny's short story!

Read both books in the series. Enjoyed them, but author has a problem with the physical descriptions of her characters. All the men are 6 plus in height and the women 5 to 5 feet with great racks!! Get real!!! Would be nice to have a little variety much too much cookie cutter descriptions.

    Loved it

I really enjoyed Jessica and Garrette's story. It was action packed and pulled your heart strings. I hope we get Nicky's story soon. Great read.

P.S. the review with the "spoiler" totally misunderstood that part of the story. There is a kiss but not once does it say he slept with her.

Not as good as the first one

I liked it but didn't love it. I found the first book much better (mike and sara's story). SPOILER ALERT: My main problem with the book was this: I didn't like that the heroine watched the hero have sex with another woman in his driveway one night after they had had sex and yet it never came up again. It bothered me throughout the story.##
