Loving him was hard. Wanting him was so damn easy . . .

Sofia Mercer may have been sick as a teen, but she's no delicate flower. And she's proven it by making it on her own and starting a new life away from the town that turned against her, away from the boy who broke her already fragile heart. But when her aunt Luz dies unexpectedly, leaving Sofia with a mountain of regrets and the keys to a quirky boutique, Sofia has no choice but to return to Cape Cod. Only, this new life in her old town comes with complications.

Burke Wolf was Sofia's first love-a relationship that burned bright and went up in flames. Seeing him again, Sofia can't help but get caught up in that all-too-familiar tornado of passion and pain. He's battled his own demons-that much is clear. But Sofia can't afford to be careless with her heart . . . and loving Burke again might just break it completely.

Publishers Weekly
Perry (One More Night with You) captures the vulnerability and love between two deeply wounded characters with edgy, heartwarming storytelling in the first book of her Guilty Pleasures series. Feisty Sofia Mercer is back home in present-day Cape Cod, Mass., the new owner of an erotic boutique. It’s been 14 years since Burke Wolf and Sofia last saw each other, after she ended their convoluted symbiotic teenage relationship. When Sofia has a panic attack in front of Burke, his protective nature takes over, despite her refusing his assistance as she’s no longer the sickly girl he once knew. There’s no denying the sexual attraction between them, but painful memories and personal insecurities block their happiness. There may be too many flashbacks, but the glimpses of the past do make the couple’s newfound relationship more profound and satisfying. The introduction of strong female secondary characters each grappling with their own personal choices adds to the ambience of this story and ensures readers will be anxious for the next book. First book I have read by this author.....I will definitely be reading more! I was sucked in from the very first page. Her writing style had me feel as if I was in the pages and actually the character living the story. A story of first love tainted from the beginning. Sofia left town as a teenager and never returned home. Twelve years later she returns for the very first time to attend her aunt's funeral. Running into Burke was inevitable, but Sofia wasn't prepared for the panic attack or all the ensuing emotions that meeting brought up. Upon finding out that Aunt Luz left everything to Sofia....she can't escape town fast enough. Being back home in Eaves and the encounter with Burke has opened up thoughts, feelings and decisions that Sofia hadn't prepared herself to face. It only takes a week back in New York before Sofia packs up and moves back to Eaves.....and the life that Aunt Luz had built for herself and left to Sofia. Encounters with Burke leave her feeling things she has never felt before. Will the town accept Sofia and can Sofia and Burke get past the demons and scars that tainted their past and they both still carry with them?

MEANT TO BE MINE is not a simple, straightforward romance, where seemingly perfect characters fall instantaneously into love. It's a story where flawed, scarred individuals collide, discovering - or rediscovering in the case of Sofia and Burke – feelings that they don't always want to accept. It's often said that nothing worth having comes easy, and that seems to perfectly sum up Sophia and Burke's love. They've fought their feelings, their fears, illness, addictions and the ghosts of their past to find their way back to each other. Not only were Sofia and Burke multidimensional character, but their friends and neighbors each had their own quirks and mysteries which just kept me hoping for more. That's exactly what you want in a series - to have a world full of interesting characters you just can't wait to get better acquainted with. I also might be developing a thing for McGuinty (What is it about the brooding, mountain man type with the heart of gold that turns me to goo? Sigh.) so you can bet I'll be coming back for the more of the series. If you like characters that feel honest – scarred and struggling, but still putting up a fight – and messy, emotional, all-consuming love, then this novel is one you're meant to read. It's sexy as hell, and though Sophia and Burke really make you work for it with their back and forth, it's well worth it. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Joss gets into in the next novel! Disclosure - I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. Any thoughts and opinions shared are entirely my own.

Welcome to Eaves. A small town where everyone knows everybody else and keeping secrets is near impossible. The loyal residents stick up for one another but there are some who always find faults and hold grudges. Burke was a troubled student with a bad reputation. He is now reformed and dedicates his life to his work and keeping out of trouble but there are those who still sees him as "trouble" because of his no nonsense abrupt attitude. He attracts the ladies and has his fun but no intention of settling down. Sofia was a sick child who didn't have a normal upbringing. She wasn't popular with her fellow students but there was a bond between her and Burke. When she left town, she left him with a broken heart even if she was just as affected. She felt that it was for his own good. She is back to attend her aunt's funeral. Burke and Sofia, seeing each other again is inevitable. They are both guarded, not wanting to go through the horrific pain once again. The bond between them is still there but trust is now a big issue. They spend time together and always end up hurting each other. Burke has kept his childhood secrets to himself and Sofia has never told him the reasons why she left the way she did. Having inherited her aunt's business, Sofia decides to make a go of staying in town to carry on with the business. Burke and Sofia can't stay away from each other but they can't commit because they are afraid of rejection. The truth from both sides are revealed and the facts are heartbreaking. Burke and Sofia's journey is a myriad of emotions. It's painful just watching them go through the doubts and uncertainties which stop them from accepting their true feelings. It's a heartfelt and overwhelming storyline. It really pulled at my heartstrings and I became completely absorbed by the characters even though I felt that the focus was taken away from Burke and Sofia, in some places. I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sofia Mercer has been dealt a lot at her young age, but every negative thing she's been hit with she's taken in stride and found a way to overcome it. She prides herself on being a strong woman, one that can handle just about anything... but when she returns to her hometown to take care of her aunt's affairs after she passes, and comes face to face with the man who broke her heart years ago it rattles her to her core. She knows getting close to him again could be dangerous on her heart so she is determined to keep him at a arms length, but after one earth shattering kiss she is left questioning everything. And left with an desire she never anticipated... to stay! Burke Wolf is a man with many demons, one of those being letting the woman he loved go years ago, and he's never been able to move past that mistake, it haunts him all the time. So, learning she is making the trip home to handle her aunt's affairs is music to his ears, it means there's a slim chance he can find a way back into her life again... and possibly back into her heart. Problem is the last time he had that chance with her it crashed and burned, and left them both wounded beyond repair... The moment I picked up this book and flipped to the first page I felt an addiction settle over me, one that I knew wasn't going to let go anytime soon... not until I had devoured every last delectable page. From the very first chapter I found myself being ingrained in these characters lives, dangling helplessly from every uttered word, feeling the emotion intended behind every one, and feeling the impression of pain and suffering as if I were experiencing first hand. This story completely blew me away, just when I thought I could see where things were going I was hit with another level of feeling that hit me deep, and changed my way of thinking. This is a love story, but its also a story of redemption, forgiveness, hope, and gives you a very accurate perception of how messy true, honest, love can be... and I loved every damn minute of it!! It's one of those stories that sneaks up on you, and knocks your world off it's axis, and when it's done your left there sitting saying WOW!! This is my first experience with Ms. Perry's work, and I have to say this is by far one of the most impressive first reads I have ever had the pleasure of reading... she got me good!... and instantly turned me into a lifelong fan!! ARC given by the publisher in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.

Hotness Rating 2 out of 5 I'm new to Lisa Marie Perry, so when I saw this book I decided to read it based on the description alone. I'm so glad I did. Miss Perry you have a new fan. One of the things I liked best about this book is that it snuck up on you. So many books these days just suck the emotions right out of you leaving you drained and not necessarily in a happy place when you reach the end. There were tons of feels in Meant to Be Mine, but they were subtle feels that just made you sit back and sigh. Sofia Mercer was a really likeable protagonist. She was a strong woman who had been through a lot. It may have dinged her up a bit, but she didn't let it break her. Coming back to the town that didn't exactly hold warm and fuzzy feelings was not on her list of fun things to do, but her aunt had passed and Sofia wanted to pay her respects. Her plans to get in and out as quick as possible was thwarted when Sofia finds out that she is now the owner of her aunt's possessions. Burke Wolf was the perfect contemporary romance hero. He grew up rough and had tons of bumps in the road, but it made him the amazing man that he is today. I loved that Burke was strong even when he thought he had nothing left. He worried that Sofia being back home would make him turn back to his addictions. But, his strength prevailed. Burke and Sofia were a great couple to read. Even though there was little sex in this book the chemistry sizzled and the sexual tension was off the charts. The secondary characters practically made the story. With such an interesting mix of people the humor came natural, the bonds were made and it just made me feel all the more invested over all. I can't wait to read more of this series. This book was generously provided in exchange for my honest review.

“This is your second chance. The choice here is real easy. You can waste your second chance on a fairy tale or grow the hell up.” “She was everything. Redemption, forgiveness, love. Everything he needed but wouldn’t dare ask for.” Meant to Be Mine is a quick and easy read. It is well written and is a nice second chance romance. I thought the characters were a lot of fun, especially Sofia and Joss. I loved Sofia’s innocence and loved watching her step out of her norm and live her life. Joss was an amazing friend and she made me laugh quite a bit. I’d love to see more of her in the future. Overall, this book was just ok for me. I adored Sofia. I felt bad for her because she had been through so much and experienced a lot of pain in her life. I admired her ability to return home and take on a new path in life despite the obstacles in her way. Burke frustrated me a lot. He was a complicated man with demons that still haunted him despite all the time that had passed. I didn’t really like how he was with Sofia. He frustrated me because he was constantly pushing Sofia away. I felt like his actions didn’t make a lot of sense and that he led her on a lot of the time. I didn’t really understand the connection/pull between the two of them. I understand and get that were friends when they were younger and that Sofia had always been in love with Burke. But, it just wasn’t working for me. It didn’t feel real. Yes, Burke and Sofia did have some chemistry and the few sexy times they shared were pretty steamy. But, I wanted more of a connection between them. I wanted to see what drew Sofia to Burke and why he was worth pursuing. I think Meant to Be Mine is going to be one of those reads that is a hit for some and miss for others. For me, I thought it was ok. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. I enjoyed the characters and the story-line. I think this series has a lot of potential, so I’d be open to reading more from this author in the future.

Sofia Mercer has a broken heart. From an early age a heart condition has ruled her life. Determined to not be defined by her past health issues or the failures in her personal life, she leaves the past behind and starts fresh in a new place. Or so she believes. When the death of her aunt forces her return, she must confront all the drama, painful memories and recapture the heart she left behind. From the outside looking in, it's easy to make assumptions but until the facts are all laid out, misconceptions will always create pain. Meant to Be Mine is passionate, insightful and captivating. To heal one has to be open to facing all aspects of themselves and that is not always a pretty portrait.
