This installment of Mech is arguably better than part one. This says alot because I loved part one. Mr. Larson mixes fiction and science in an excellent blend, keeping the technology plausible and the characters believable. He has created worlds with depth of detail in geography, inhabitants and social customs; creatures that make you hold your breath. The story will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can.

They're back.
This time an emotionally unstable Mech, a gollumesque anti-hero and a master swordsman join Droad in his battle against the latest outbreak of, well, you know who.
Like the first book, the story starts quickly... and picks up speed from there. Also like the first book, the conflict plays out against a backdrop of future politics so bizarre that they could have been ripped from today's headlines.
In short, if you liked Mech you'll love Mech 2.

I strongly suggest you read the previous book in the series (Mech 1: The Parent) prior to reading this installment.
This story was a very fast and fun read that completely entertained and engrossed me. The plot held my attention so completely, I finished this book in one day.
The story delivered exactly what I was looking for, a creepy and creative uncomplicated plot. I just could not put this book down.
I highly recommend this book fellow SF readers and also recommend to fellow dark urban fantasy readers who are looking for a good space opera but do not want to end up with a space romance. I will be reading the next book in the series Mech 3: The Empress.

The mechs move on and, hopefully, they will move on again in a sequel!

I think your work is worth reading but the Mech books seem very derivative of the Vang stories by Christopher B. Rowley. Not only the aliens but the major plot points of the first book seem to be nearly identical to The Vang: The Military Form.

However Mech 2, much like the original Mech novel, lacks any real thought into the plot and guides you blindly towards the story's conclusion. The "Mech" in both novels are not so much the main character or part of the plot as they are side notes to a very watered down tale.
I couldn't bring myself to give it below three-stars because despite the aforementioned flaws I still enjoyed reading the book. It also helps that it is an afternoon read and not truly an epic affair.

Overview
A new world, more aliens, and even more Mechs! The Skaintz Imperium was eradicated from the backwater planet of Garm, but at great cost. The population of the world was cut in half within weeks, and Garm will never be the same. At least humanity can breathe easily knowing that the mysterious aliens are all dead.... But are they?
Using their natural form of communication, Skaintz radio signals did chirrup and click, however briefly. Transmissions in their ancient language now spread at the speed of light in a ...
