Media Now: Understanding Media, Culture, and Technology is definitely outstanding text book which presents media movement from time to time, from old into new media, from analog into digital era and also its impact on culture. Straubhaar and LaRose as the authors, serve this book in simple words and clear visualizations to assist the student when learns this book deeply. By giving up-to-date examples, contain of each chapter in the book will much easier to be understood. Media that reflects the development of technology can be used in anywhere and anytime, such as newspaper, television, radio, mobile phone, even the internet/wireless. This book shows that media helps not only for common people but also for advertising planner and public relation officer. After reading this book, I found many theories that I have learned before. For instances, Uses and Gratifications, Diffusion of Innovation, Technological Determinism, Cultivation Theory, Agenda Setting Theory and so on. I suggest related book, ¿A First Look at Communication Theory which is written by E.M. Griffin¿ that will help the reader to understand communications theories completely. Media Now also provides media issues like media policy and law, media ethics, and the globalization of communication media. Much additional information about how media works from many sources are served inside the book. and finally, I say, ¿Too good to miss.¿

Media Now is one of a series of important reference books which is quite important to be read for those who wish to be updated with the latest information about the things that happens all around. One of the ways to obtain such information is through the media and the changes of media and its technology influence the man¿s life. This is why it is important to know and learn about the media. This book contains complete and thorough information about the latest updates on media technology and its influence towards people. Information given in this book is written in an interesting style and it is very good to be read. Common people or those who have not read any media books will find no difficulties in digesting the information given. Mainly, the author is talking about the changing of media technologies from traditional ¿old¿ analog media to ¿new¿ digital media. Media mentioned in this are print media such as, books and magazines, newspapers and digital media such as, radio, television, film, and internet. Changes discussed in this book are followed by changes in several life aspects such as, lifestyle, business, culture, and many more. These new facts are also supported by related theories like ¿uses and gratifications¿ that talk about media consumption behavior. The use of media technology also have influence in the work of public relation, for example the use of video for press conference and for news release. Advertising area also has been impacted by these changes. Advertising agencies are now able to put their advertisement online, or in this case, through the internet. Besides talking about the media and its technologies, the author also discusses media literacy in this book. The author encourages audience not only just to accept all information given by the media, but also to sort out this information and absorb information that is useful. Now, what about you? Do you want to be a person who is ¿out of date¿ in the middle of information society or to take the first step in being an ¿updated¿ person by reading this book? This option is yours to take.

Media Now: Understanding Media, Culture, and Technology

This book invigorates the reader¿s passion to read the whole book and read it all over again. Media Now is a book that gives us explanation about how the media and technology that support the development of media works. Dr. Joseph D. Straubhaar, its author, has succeeded to write such a wonderful book. Filled with the recent example, deep explanation and simple delivered materials, this book has become one of my favorite communication books to read. Power-packed with chapter like The Changing Media, Media and Society, set of chapter that explains Journalism and mass media, Advertising, Public Relations, and the set of chapter of media application in daily life, this book is one of a kind book that is too good to be missed. Because of its simple and applicative materials, this book is worth to read on every page because it helps us to understand things more clearly if we have understood the communication theory. For recommendation, read this book after reading the communication theory book titled ¿Introduction to Communication Theory¿ authored by E.M. Griffin. This book will provide further explanation and example about the theories that these two books will make good addition if you are interested with communication matter. This book will also provide substances for e-learning through its website that makes it easier if student or instructor needs additional resources for studying process. Last sentence about this book : ¿simply, a must have book!¿
