    The Baffling, The Incredible, The True

    Medical Mysteries tells the stories of people whose conditions were covered on ABC News. They include, Dede Koswara, and Indonesian man, who is known as The Tree Man because he has growths all over his body, especially on his hands, which look like huge gnarled roots and bark. The book is written as if somebody you knew were recounting the medical news stories she covered with humor and compassion. In Dede's case, there was a cause found and some help from operations to remove the growths. Over time, his hands became so covered they were 15 inches in circumference, much larger than his head. He could no longer work, and his wife took their children and divorced him. Since he can't care for himself, his father now does that. Although this is the most extreme case doctors have seen, it is caused by a common virus, HVP, and might have been contained if he'd received early treatment for warts.

    Or the former model who smells so much of rotten fish, the stench can fill an auditorium (genetic), or young man with "Pizza Paralysis" which could be treated and others with "Surfer's Syndrome", a paralysis that can't be cured.

    I found two conditions which include problems a friend and a relative have which may help them find a cure.

    Despite the subject matter, this is not a depressing book. The people covered are dealing with their problems and reaching out to others once the syndrome they have was finally identified.
