Overview

This book is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the general medical and surgical conditions relevant to dentistry. Dental staff now have to contend with an increasing variety of medical problems that impinge on dental treatment, and to be aware of the possible medicolegal consequences of failure to keep up-to-date. Medical Problems in Dentistry has become the standard work for the whole dental team. It is ideal as a textbook for dental students and candidates for postgraduate dental examinations, as a day-to-day reference for the general dental practitioner's surgery and for dental staff working in hospitals.

The book contains black-and-white figures.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Do I need this book, or one of similar quality? There is no doubt; it is an item that I would want available in any multiple-surgery practice I worked in, for all of the staff, for reference, and for quickly resolving differences of opinion. However, I would encourage home reading, too; you will be surprised what updates you need and what grabs your attention."

Primary Dental Care, April 2011

Aladean Attar
This book covers general medical and surgical conditions relevant to oral health care. This is the fourth edition, the first was published in 1982. The purpose is to provide a basis of understanding about a variety of medical conditions relevant to oral health care. The text is just one of the many ways to access knowledge for continuing education purposes. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to oral medicine; it is a reference source for the many medical conditions of the dental patient. The authors state this is a text for the dental professional. However, it could also be an excellent source of reference for the resident or student. The authors have numerous publications on oral pathology and oral medicine. The book covers various topics such as bleeding disorders, cardiac disease, diabetes, and immunosuppressive treatment, as well as their management. The topics encompass day-to-day concerns for the dental practitioner. Tables are clear and concise, and easy to understand. This fourth edition has a section of colored photographs, which can aid in understanding some aspects of a specific malady. This is an excellent reference for the many conditions of the dental patient. It can be useful as a guide for the practitioner, or a primary text for students. Due to the complex and changing nature of medicine, this fourth edition was warranted.
