Description: This excellent update to the 2004 edition incorporates 75 new medical terms, a new simplified syllabus, and learning supplements, including flash cards and CD-ROM.
Purpose: The book is designed to help readers quickly master medical terminology through a combination of text and accompanying teaching materials. Given the continual evolution of healthcare, the book is a necessary update.
Audience: Although intended for healthcare students, this book will also be helpful for laypersons interested in learning medical terms.
Features: The book is organized into 15 chapters, a word part review, a comprehensive review section, two appendixes, index, flash cards, and pronunciation CD-ROM. The first two chapters are an introduction to medical terminology with word parts review. Successive chapters are organized by body system, analogous to an anatomy text. The final chapter finishes with diagnostic procedures and pharmacology. The book is chockfull of tables, images, critical thinking, and learning exercises. Its strength lies in the many illustrations and exercises that reinforce concepts.
Assessment: This excellent book continues its tradition of high standards. It would be a valued asset in any program requiring medical terminology as well as for public and college/university libraries.
