Meet the Author

Jack Kornfield is an author, psychologist, and one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist practice to the West. After graduating in Asian studies from Dartmouth College in 1967, he trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma, and India. In 1975, Kornfield cofounded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, and later, the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. His books include A Path With Heart; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; The Art of Forgiveness; and most recently The Wise Heart.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great for Beginners

    Jack Kornfield has a wonderful voice and is very soothing. This CD set if very informative for beginner's looking to get into meditation. I have since purchased his six CD set, as it goes further in-depth with meditation and the meditation exercises.

    A Path I can follow

    Jack is a wonderful teacher. He combines the best of both--an excellent guide in beginning to meditate and his stories and experience help you to understand what the purpose of meditation is.

    Too much talk

    He rambles on entirely too much! Just when you think you're about to start the next meditation, there'll be a long pause, then he'll ramble on about this story or that story. I will say that he has a very calming voice, but he needs to know when it's time to speak or when it's time to pause. I became so frustrated by this, that I ended up buying something else.

    Teachings from a master

    Jack is one of the grandfathers of the 'Mindfulness Movement' and has taught vipassana meditation to thousands. His words convey the subtle essence of the path of mindfulness - and it is all in the subtlety of meaning. Read and listen to everything by Jack.

    Decent for beginners

    I am new to meditation... I have been practicing a lot and took a few tips from both the book and the CD. Still looking for more tips that stick though.
