The critics savaged Annie Lennox's sophomore effort when it first came out, and it's easy to see why: it's not that an all-covers album was a bad idea, but she did pick some rather large shoes to fill and she did kind of run roughshod over the songs themselves, taking gritty material by the likes of Neil Young and the Clash and turning it into super-slick electro-pop ear candy. But on the other hand, candy sometimes really hits the spot, and Lennox's rendition of "No More I Love You's" by the ultra-obscure British pop band the Lover Speaks is ravishingly, heartbreakingly lovely. Those who have never heard the Clash's original version of "Train in Vain" might not find her version as objectionable as the critics did, either. But there's no arguing with the critics when it comes to her anemic take on the Al Green classic "Take Me to the River" or her equally numb rendition of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down." Those who have given up on looking cool, however, might find themselves able to enjoy her gentle arrangement of "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Don't pay full price for this, but snap it up if you find it in a bargain bin somewhere.

    Music at its Finest!

    This collection of songs by Annie Lennox makes this album the best.Each song delivers that special power that only Annie Lennox can make happen. Medusa from 1995 is for sure - a true masterpiece!

    A TRULEY LOVELY CD.

    I love this cd, my fav. Song is no more i love you's.Very divine and powerful.Annie lenniox is a must cd.

    Haunting

    I fell in love with this CD the first time I heard it. The lyrics are haunting and the music is some of the best I've heard. Put this CD in on a long ride when there are no distractions and you'll see what I mean.

    DON'T LET IT BRING YOU DOWN

    Annie Lennox does a nice job on several cover songs. Her playful rendition of The Clash's 'Train in Vain' (Stand by Me), and funky version of Talking Heads 'Take Me to the River' are fun. By far the best though, is her very haunting and very sensual cover of Neil Young's 'Don't Let it Bring You Down.' Find a quiet spot to give a listen while you think of someone you want to be with; guaranteed to send you into orbit. That song alone is worth the purchase.

    Love it!

    While listening to the album, I read the All Music Guide review and thought, ''Am I listening to the same album!'' I think it ROCKS -- it's Annie's wonderful, soulful stuff.

    Voyeur voices

    Everyone sings in the shower, sometimes it is a song that catches your consciousness, or a song that reflects an emotion that is pertinent at a particular time. Medusa is an album that reflects just these kinds of songs. I am old enough to have remembered when most of the songs came out, and like the way Annie Lennox did particularly whiter shade of pale, and don't let it bring me down. The song that I did not know and still don?t was the haunting No More I love You's, it is the song I sing in the shower lately. The selection of songs and the placement make an excellent tone poem of songs that mean something to Annie. There are no ''requirements'' to songs that mean something to you; after all we are just the privileged eavesdroppers in Annie's shower.

    Soul Diva

    Anne is hot and the music on this CD makes you think about life in general. I think its one of her best CD'S yet.
