Meet the Author

Emmy Swain believes in the magical power of animals to heal and guide the human spirit.

Emmy's creativity was poured into music as a child and young adult. It then spilled into inventing, and eventually into writing. Life lessons linked with fantasy create a book series that any age will enjoy. Emmy has captured this in a world of her own.

The Franklin Bean series was born out of her conversations with her own beloved pets to help end the devastating effects of bullying. The single mother has been an inventor, restaurateur, and business owner for over two decades.

"Franklin Bean storybooks are created to be lean forward experiences, encouraging children to actively relate the characters' situations to their real-world," Swain says. "Intuitively, the words and illustrations reach into the readers' imaginations, where real learning takes place. Choice allows them to craft their own story."

"That's the beauty of Franklin Bean's magic . . . new possibilities emerge."

    Best summer read.

This could be one of those books we have to read every night this summer. My kids love the story and feel so much joy. They want me to read it every night. This could be one of those books you read over and over. I especially like the messages they get from the story. I think my children feel like they have found a new friend.
We will look forward to more of Franklin Bean.
Also find the cover and art work very attractive.

Absolutely LOVED IT!!! A must read for everyone!

I just read this book to my daughter and I don't know who loved it more. My husband came in and asked what we were talking about. I had him sit it on the second read, and he was in hysterics. What a wonderful job! There are few books in this house that all 3 of us enjoy. This is a fun book and I can't wait to read the next one! I won't spoil the surprise :)

Comment spoken to grandmother to type: "I loved your book. It was awesome! I liked the dog (giggle giggle). The dog is nice. The ending was good too. The best part of the book was when the dog saved the girl. I think that the boy may have been dreaming or had an active imagination because dogs don't talk where I live, but it would be really fun if they did. Yeah! I would like to go to school and take my talking dog and nobody else would have one, that would be nice."

    Adorable dog and mystery, too!

I'm a sucker for any book about animals, but sometimes they can be a bit sappy. This one is charmingly sweet, but intriguing, too. Emmy Swain managed to pack in a whole lot into an entertaining children's story. The illustrations are wonderful. That dog Franklin Bean is clearly up to something, and a lot of kids will be demanding "Where's the next Franklin Bean book?" at the end of this one.

    Franklin Bean is Outstanding

I am not a dog lover, in life or literature, but I fell in love with Franklin Bean. The story has imagination galore and the illustrations are colorful as well as appropriate with the written word on the page. Franklin Bean gives the reader lessons on life and how anyone reading this book, whether young or old, can learn something new. This book is appropriate from Kindergarten-4th grade....but it wouldn't hurt middle schoolers to read this so they treat others better. I am a retired elementary teacher and a grandmother. I read this book and sent it on to my grandchildren hoping they learn how to treat others and each other. I highly recommend this book to parents, children, and teachers.

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO HAS EVER LOVED A CHILD OR A DOG!

This is a wonderful story that illustrates the challenges that many families are facing as a result of our nations tough economic times. Franklin Bean is a very clever and loving little dog who shows everyone that anything is possible. The little "bean" will warm your heart with his love and kindness. Everytime my son sees a Boston Terrier now, he thinks its Franklin Bean and he scream "beaner weiner"!

Kids Will Love it and So Will You!

This is a delightful early reader for either a boy or girl. The author introduces a new twist on the talking animal theme by giving the main character, Franklin Bean, super hero powers. With Franklin Bean, his boy ,John, is able to overcome the difficulty of moving to a new house, new neighborhood and new school and teach others about good and responsible social behavior.

A nice first chapter book. Recommend for parents, teachers, elementary school librarians and all kids.
