With many colorful illustrations, this biography focuses on Helen Keller's life stories and how she overcame her disabilities.
Helen Keller was a very special woman who did not let a problem keep her from her goal. Before she was two years old, a quick illness left her unable to see or hear any more. Suddenly in a dark, quiet place, Helen depended on the love of her family and friends and her own strong curiosity to learn. With the patience and creativity of a loving teacher, Helen learned how to read special books, speak and type for herself.
Helen worked very hard to share what she learned to help other people get past their disabilities and problems. Her fight for fairness for all people has made Helen Keller one of the most famous women in the world.

I enjoyed reading a different book about Helen Keller when I was in elementary school, but it was meant for much older children. I loved this version for younger readers and can't wait to introduce it to my nieces. The story is written simply and will be easily understood and enjoyed by young readers. Helen Keller continues to be such an inspirational woman to each generation that comes along even in the modern age. I also appreciated the unique illustrations - those added an interesting flair to the story that will also be noticed by young ones.
This is the perfect version for kids to learn more about Helen Keller. There are bright illustrations and the book is written in short, but informative chapters. It covers all of the important events in Keller’s life including meeting Alexander Graham Bell, which led her to Anne Sullivan who taught her and was her friend for almost 50 years. The book goes beyond her childhood years and touches on how she graduated from college and much more. As a tutor, I would not hesitate recommending this version to any young student who needs information for a report or is simply looking for an interesting story to read.
I bought this because I wanted an easy to read and understand book for my niece who is 10. She had seen something on TV about Helen Keller and asked me about her. I read through it myself last night and am very happy with how it reads and it should be easy for her to understand. All the information is accurate as far as I know. I am not an expert on Helen Keller but I am pretty familiar with her story. I am satisfied this book gets it right.
