Meet Me in Margaritaville: The Ultimate Collection

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David McGee
Summertime has long since been presided over by the Mayor of Margaritaville, and his reign continues with the release of this two-disc sonic travelogue. Ostensibly a greatest-hits set, Meet Me in Margaritaville dips deep into all facets of Jimmy Buffett's sunny style, from the laid-back haziness of "Come Monday" and "Changes in Latitudes" to the hopped-up Coral Reefer grooves that imbue "Why Do We Get Drunk" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise." But in addition to the time-tested favorites, Buffett peppers the collection with new recordings -- most notably covers of "Everybody's Talkin'," delivered with the same sort of mooning wistfulness that marked Harry Nilsson's original,...

But in addition to the time-tested favorites, Buffett peppers the collection with new recordings -- most notably covers of "Everybody's Talkin'," delivered with the same sort of mooning wistfulness that marked Harry Nilsson's original, and the Beach Boys' "Sail on Sailor," a windswept version that belies Buffett's own seafaring pursuits. In addition, Buffett goes back to tweak some of his classics, putting a syncopated new spin on "Son of a Son of a Sailor" and stretching out with rum-soaked glee on live versions of "A Pirate Looks at Forty" and "Desperation Samba." The package also includes a booklet with wry liner notes provided by the Head Coral Reefer himself.

I always love listening to Jimmy's songs, they never grow old.

Jimmy Buffet is a great song writer who connects with people in a laid-back way that is always comforting. Some of his songs get you up and ready to sing or dance while others just connect with your soul. His songs bring back memories of younger years, while others help you understand where you are now. The lyrics and melodies always rejuvinate me and make me feel good about myself and the world helping me keep a positive outlook on life. Jimmy make you fell like your glass is always overflowing. I have seen Jimmy Buffet and the Coralreefers twice in concert and this album helped relive those times. If you are are Parrot-head, you will love this addition to your collection. Enjoy!

    Best of all worlds

It's too bad that most people only think of Margaritaville when they think of Jimmy Buffet. I encourage anyone to get this and see what a fun, clever, wonderful song-writer and entertainer he is. My kids loved Cheeseburger, Volcano, Barefoot Children and sing along with others too. For me, He Went to Paris is one of the most poinient songs ever written. Definately an A+ from me and my family!

    My First Taste Of Buffet

I bought this as a present for my dad for Christmas. Then I asked him if I could try listening to it. Ever since, I've been captivated by Jimmy Buffet's music and even his books, he's easily the most laid back guy you could meet, and the most talented songwriter.

    3 generations love jb

At 72 I am a long time lover of JB and his laid back style of entertainment as is my 46yo daughter. Now we have added my 14yo grand-daughter and I am buying another Ultimate Collection for my 22yo Air Force grand-daughter recently deployed to Afganistan.

    The Definitive Collection

Hello, fellow Parrot Heads. I'm glad to see that I am the first to review this collection of Jimmy Buffet's music. I own a lot of the albums and I must say that he is such a great entertainer! He really puts on a great show. My wife and I went to see him in concert last summer and it was a riot! The only problem was that I went to take a dump in the porta-john and there wasn't any toilet paper. Unfortunately, I found this out after I cranked out a major loaf. The only thing I could find to wipe my butt of the fecal remnants was one of my socks, so I quickly swiped my bung with it and tossed it into the disposal tank. I spent the rest of the day walking around with one sock! The music was so incredible and it was one big party, though, so we had a hoot anyway. Jimmy's band was in top form and they really put on a great show. I can't wait for this cd to come out, because it will be great for summer barbecues!
