About the Author

Karen Penrose is a retired elementary school teacher who has turned her lifelong love of the ocean into a passion for writing nonfiction books for kids. With years of experience sparking curiosity in the classroom, she now shares fascinating facts and stories about some of the ocean’s most amazing creatures.

Her children’s nonfiction titles include books on stingrays, sailfish, puffins, and flying fish, each designed to bring science and nature to life for young readers ages 7–13. Through engaging storytelling, fun facts, and educational activities, her books help kids connect with marine life while building a deeper appreciation for conservation and the natural world.

When she’s not writing, Penrose enjoys exploring the coastline, watching seabirds, and spending time with her family. She believes that every child should have the chance to dive into the wonders of the ocean - without ever leaving home.
