Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Big cities are made up of many neighborhoods. Small towns may all be one neighborhood. Various types of neighborhoods and the homes they contain are defined and described. People live in houses, duplexes, town houses, and apartment buildings. Most neighborhoods have libraries, post offices, and grocery stores. Neighborhoods may also include swimming pools, gas stations, fire stations, banks, movie theaters, and dentists' offices. People choose to live in neighborhoods that meet their needs. Some neighborhoods have lots of families with young children. Others cater to people without children or to retired people. No two neighborhoods are exactly the same. Neighborhoods are always changing. Good changes are welcome. People in some neighborhoods sponsor community events, such as bike races and cleanup projects. The book includes a table of contents, instructions for a neighborhood project, a glossary, and an index. Young children could use the book as a help in developing beginning research skills. Part of the "Let's Be Social" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
